Outerspace 5 Opening 23 Activities • Who knows what tomorrow will bring, or what lies on our horizons. Each day brings us closer and closer to that great void beyond our hemisphere — closer to the stars, the planets, and deeper and deeper into that unknown blackness — outer space. Each day in school, we delve into a different type of blackness; and in learning, we attempt to understand that darkness. Sometimes we might find the edge of the dark side too close and we seem to be losing grip on ourselves. In order to reestablish our course and continue our journey we must find our home planet and head straight for it unceasingly. 133 Elementary 195 Advertisements Brother Michael Corry, warm, compassionate, and caring, makes his presence felt aroun the school. His kindness touches all those who come in contact with him. New students. Junior and Senior High, often meet him first and gain a favorable impression of St. John ' s. One can often find Brother Michael socializing and talking with the students discussing new ideas as well as old. His empathy is felt everywhere and St. John ' s would seem empty without him. Sejour 1984 is proudly dedicated to Brother Michael Corry. ♦ Hi. nfl Sl ' v •-, 1! V-, - At.- lkiU The Class of ' 84 ri hi 1 V • t . After many difficult practices, they had to face highly competitive opponents The resulting games were close. ■K, L ,, J„j,i . a, ' Tennis — An Upperhand on Love Although tennis is an individual sport, the St. John ' s tennis team as a whole contributed to a highly successful year. Com- pared to the previous year ' s record, St. John ' s made a huge leap in wins and the quality of the tennis played was vastly superior. ■m . fl«—i« H iMb i M.««M .. Running Wild and Free Getting into shape or running for the sheer joy of it are the main reasons for running cross country. Through the damp and cold our runners continued to give their best and their times and scores during meets proved this. The team ran a very successful year, one of the best St. John ' s has ever had. L Bump, Duck walks, laps around the soccer field, and jumping rope aided in strengthening the volleyball teams ' mental and physical condition. Through superb coaching and the combined efforts of the players, al teams performed very well, and many new friends were made. «Uioi '  l Hb ' B- . - Competitive, yet fun, the track team attracted many budding young runners and track stars. Punishing and grueling runs against the clock proved the superiority of our track team and they emerged the victors in a great many of their meets. 118 Only Constant Practice Produces Winners The multi-talented players on this year ' s team contributed to a successful year. Although the team did not shine — with out- standing scores and wins, they did have a winning, positive attitude game after game. This is very important in competitive sports. In a small school team spirit and cooperation are needed, and St. John ' s possesses both qualities. By working together and putting aside all differences, the St. John ' s basketball teams rose to the top, and with hard work, stayed there. j; SajUg mK2 i .h yf Bj - ' p- ' V sy . .4 H Vmm -x. rJ , i M iBB r f T ' j V VARSITY GIRLS — From L to R: Nicki Zomnir, Christine Dorson-King, Robin Wawack, Bonnie Powell, Emily Campbell, Coach Linda Rhinehart, Britta Baicr, Wende Zomnir, Tara Thiessen. THE HORIZON ACCOUDT Thebest investment for 16 to 21-year-olds The Horizon Account. It really is the ultimate. It ' s one more 5-year deposits (minimum BF 5,000 per instalment, maximum BF 500,000 total investment) at very high interest rates indeed If you ' re already thinking about your plans for the future - studying, getting a job, a place to live, the journey of a lifetime or a major project - you ' ll find the Horizon Account difficult to beat. Well worth having a word with your parents about it, in fact. Horizon Account interest rates are like all rates they ' re liable to change at any time. But if you want to be certain down to the nearest franc, call in at any BBL branch and they ' ll work it out for you exactly . The Horizon Account is seriously worth thinking about once you ' ve got BF 5,000 to spare and a long-term project in mind. Because it pays very high interest, and if you want, you can withdraw your money before the five years are up. With less interest, of course, but just try to find anything as good elsewhere. If you ' re already working, you can open your Horizon Account by yourself as soon as you ' re 16. If you ' re still studying : - once you ' re 18 you can sign on your own ; - between 16 an 18 years you need to get permission from one of your parents. Bear in mind, though, that if you ' ve already got a BBL current account you can open a Horizon Account by yourself at any age You can pay money into your Horizon Account - as a once-off deposit or in any number of instalments - from the time you ' re 16 until the day before your 21st birthday. AND IF YOU ' RE ALREADY THINKING OF SETTING UP HOUSE , , When you buy a house or flat, come and see us about a mortgage loan. If you ' ve already invested money on Horizon Account we ' ll grant you a large reduction. For instance : BF 50,000 invested for 5 years on Horizon Account - whether in one lump sum or any number of instalments - saves you around BF 300,000 in repayments on a BF 1,500,000 mortgage loan (based on rates In force on 17.1.83). BBL takes care of you ... Congratulations to the Seniors of 1984 McDERMOTT INTERNATIONAL, INC. While most people are concerned about the effects of civilisation on the animals, birds and plantlife which share planet earth with us, it is a sadly human reaction to shrug and say what can I do? The truth is that we can all help and a contribution, however small, to organizations like the World Wildlife Fund is one easy way. Many small contributions add up to the larger amounts needed by the WWF to study and protect the world ' s wildlife and to educate and motivate people to join the fight against extinction. This is why ITT is supporting the admirable work of the World Wildlife Fund whose projects are by no means limited to more distant parts of the world. Much of their work is right here in Europe and the people of ITT ask you to join them in supporting the battle to protect tomorrow ' s Europe for tomorrow ' s Europeans.
