The St. John's Drama Club is offering this now classic piece of American black comic, anti-war art. . .which selectively casts the adventures of Yossar- ian, Chaplain Tappman, Milo Minderbinder, and their buddies in the style of a Marx Broth- ers farce. Catch-22 is one bambadier's eye- view of an experience he'd rather not see America repeat. One laughs, but there is pain behing the laugh. I am very glad to have the opportunity to formally express my gratitude to all of the members of my class. However, I would also like to share my personal observations with the Fresh- men, Sophomores, and Juniors so that they might profit from four years of experience. I can remember sitting in these bleachers while various administrators, faculty members, and former students stressed the importence of involvement in out-of-school activities. However, for a long time I paid no attention to this advice. I was telling myself, I'm not smart enough for that, or l'm not athletic enough for this, or I don't have the popularity which that requires. It turned out that I was only deceiving myself. So I decided to change that. I be- came more willing to open myself up to other people and other things, and, only then, did I realize the importance and beauty of St. John's. We are all individuals. We are subject to many different lifestyles which will have an effect upon our perception of our high school careers. I know that my view of St. John's has changed over the years. For me, St. John's is the dedicated faculty mem- ber who works to improve this facility. He has been witnessed painting the classrooms, fixing the lock- ers, sweeping the parking lot, cleaning the windows, and laboring over other tasks which we so often take for granted. St. John's is the teacher who returns to this build- ing long after school hours to decorate the cafeteria, referee an intramural basketball game, attend a Model U.N. meeting, direct the stage crew for the show, or chaperone a dance. St. John's is the person in the guidance office who is always availble to speak with or offer help when needed. St. John's is the administrator who promotes the general welfare of the student body. St. John's is the coach who helps us develop a spirit of competition and makes us realize the impor- tance of fitness of our physical selves. St. John's is the theology teacher who helps us achieve an awareness of our religion and instills in us a spirit of Christian unity. And, just as important, St. John's is all of you sit- ting here today. I would ask all of you to seek self-fulfillment and try to achieve a sense of satisfaction with yourself, a feeling that you are doing all that you can do to make yourself a more complete person. Whatever you de- cide to participate in, make sure that you approach your endeavors with a spirit of eagerness and deter- mination. From all different walks of life we have gathered here to form a union, and each individual sitting in front of me is special. You stand for the intelligence, strength, honor, and charity which always have been a part of the tradition of this fine school. I now realize that there is nothing more important than this sense of Christian unity and accomplishment you have pro- vided. Good luck. - Peter J.Fi.
