Unique and somewhat recent, Flavian Hall is an integral part of the St. Iohn's tradition. Built in the late 1960's, the building is named in honor of Brother Flavian fFeb. 22, 1886 to Au- gust 4, 19741 who was a read- ing tutor and typing teacher at St. Iohn's from 1962 until his death. Brother Flavian was quite the personality. He was known for breaking up rocks and depos- iting them in the woods in his task of never tiring groundskeeper, even at the age of seventy. At his death, Brother Flavian was the senior Xaverian Brother in America, and, so, St. Iohn's has honored him by creating Flavian Hall. Flavian Hall has provided ex- tra room for classes, but it has become more than just extra Flavian Hall space. It has grown into a building with a personality all its own. The classrooms of Flavian are vertical rather than horizontal. In addition to classes, the Drama club makes use of Flavian's Little Theatre, which is also used for the showing of movies.
