JOHN'S HIGH SCHOOL GOSHEN NEW YORK THEME As we reflect upon our twelve years of unified training in the truths of salvation and science, we realize how truly synony- mous are the Catholic and American ideals of life. The purpose of genuine edu- cation is not to store the memory, but to strengthen man with his own mind, to rouse him to higher self- activity, to vivify him, to give him fresh faith, hope, and courage, to deepen the foundations of his being, to cultivate his faculties, to give him a firmer grasp of truth and a clearer view of things as they are, As Amer- ican Catholic youth we have been educated thus and our resultant love of God sets us afire with love of coun- try. In this present age when evil seems to envelop the world like a fearful tem- pest, America needs cou- rageous and determined youth. We have been educated to satisfy this need, As Amer ican Catholic youth, we are the hope of Christ, the hope of the Church, and the hope of a strong America. 4 --.9 I ff' 1' 7 44: 44 4 1 4 44 41, 444' 41 4 4 1 4 'il 44 Q' 514 4 441 C K 1 K 5' 4' X , +1 1 I 2 1 , A 5 Q l ' '- F 5 5 K . v . xl ,V f RW! Grundner pro- motes the work of Catholic education at St. Iohn's in his par- ish with priestly zeal and fatherly interest. His familiar fig- ure is seen at all activities: in the Church, celebrating mass for our special occasions, hearing confessions before the first Friday of every month, officiating at the senior ring ceremonyg in the school, distributing the quarterly reports, attending the annual play, encouraging us by his presence at all our scholas- tic and social functions. Monsignor is always there, and thus has endeared himself to each and every one at St. Iohn's High School. The Right Reverend MONSIGNOR JOSEPH W. GRUNDNER Director of St. Iohn's High School REVEREND JOHN A. GALLAGHER an a , u lx 'r Vs 3,1 in n--1.l, I During our high school years, we realize the impor- tant part which the priests have played in our individual lives. In early October of this year, Father Gallagher came to St. John's. Through the weekly religion classes he has tried to prepare us to face the challenge of the years ahead. For his earnest efforts to enrich our lives with a fuller knowledge of our Catholic heritage, we are deeply grateful. Nr J uk We see all that you see and beyond we see yet divine truth.
