TITANS PREPARE FOR CITY LEAGUE Tom Balyeat rambles for a first down. After impressive freshman and J.V. seasons, the Titan footballers moved into the varsity ranks this year. August 18th signalled the start of practice under coaches John Braucher, Fred Beier. and John Smith. Three weeks of intensive drills paid off in an opening 24-12 victory over neighboring Maumee. The following week the team traveled to Orville, Ohio, where a first quarter T.D. by the Red Ryders inflicted the Titans with their first varsity loss. The young Titans bounced back to sting Taylor Center 12-6 on the Ram's own field. Un the road once again, a brilliant second half comeback fell short in a 22-16 loss to Tif- fin Calvert. Scott introduced the Titans to the tough City League by pre- senting them with a 35-0 trouncing. A top-rated Monroe Central Catho- lic team pounded the shrinking Titans 33-16. An extra week of practice didn't help the Titan cause as they met their fourth straight defeat 26-12 at the hands of the Springfield Blue Devils. A determined squad faced the Bowsher Rebels in the muddy season finale. In the third quarter, the Titan defense pushed the Rebels into the end-zone for a safety. But with only minutes to go in the game, a long pass sunk the Titans 8-2. Now the experienced team awaits next year, when the Titans will make their debut in the City League. Mike 0'Reilly l86l.
