We laugh and we cry. We work and play and then we wail about the lack of time. We wish minutes and hours and even days and weeks away and then there are those moments that we wish could last forever. Time — Lots of time at St. John’s High. 1260 hours in a school year and then at least that much more time devoted to friends, and work and leisure and procras- tinating and gossip and good times and not so good times ... Time in class, time in the hallways, at break and after school — Precious times that we hope we will never forget. The Blue Devil staff has tried to freeze just a few of these moments in time, mo- ments which will, later on, make you smile and shake your head, or get a lump in your throat at the memory. We hope that the following pages will help you to remem- ber the 1987-88 school year more vividly ... to help you remember the school year when all was blue, white, and you! We laugh and we cry. We work and play.

At SJH, school spirit is a reflection of the pride we feel for our athletic teams and for our school as a whole. Many opportunities are presented for students to show their support for the school, such as school-related clubs, pep rallies, and ath- letic events. Home- coming week is espe- cially Spirited each year. This year, as in the past, the student council permitted each student to par- ticipate each day in Spirit week. Mon- day was Twin day, Tues- day, Nerd day; Wednes- day, Drcssup day; Thursday, Celebrity day, and the week culminated in Fri- day’s, Blue and White Day. A home- coming parade fea- turing the home- coming contestants and floats painstak- ingly prepared by members of each class took place at the ball game on Oc- tober 23. The home- coming queen and football sweetheart were crowned dur- ing half time. The basketball team is supported by a special group of people known as the bleacher crea- tures who add spunk and spir- it. With such a fine ath- letic program and student body, it is no wonder that Spirit is so vital an element in life at SJH. Spirit is a vital part of Student life at SJH
