A Change of Place With the number of students at St. John's High swelling to 1060 this year, it became necessary to use every square inch of the school for class space. Classes were held where no classes had ever been held before — everywhere from the teacher’s dining room to the Audio-Visual room. Even the cafeteria was used to house study hall. Along with these spacemakers came some necessary changes. The library, under Mrs. Hawkins, the new head librarian, was rear- ranged and the reference section was moved downstairs. Mr. Wright holds class in a redesigned classroom. - - The cafeteria addition under construction. 4

TO THE STUDENTS OF ST. JOHN'S: As we begin the 1984-85 school year, let us consider the many new rules and regulations that have been enacted by the legislature and will affect the school lives of all students and teachers. Some of the major factors to be considered are the increased number of units required for graduation, the emphasis placed on attendance and the effort to keep students in school. The new eligibility requirements in- sure the passing of all required subjects before a stu- dent is allowed to participate in any type of extra- curricular activities and, finally, the “time-on-tasks” mandates a minimum of fifty-five minute class periods throughout the day. It has been projected that the “Governor's Package” will increase the educational abilities of our students. Let’s all work together to insure that all students have the opportunity to attain their maximum goals. I will always be available to assist in anyway possible to make your experiences at St. John’s rewarding. It is a new beginning for all of us: let’s make the most of it. 3
