HEARTBREAK “There is m evidence that soap operas corrupt teenagers’ values or that teess go out aud copy soap characters’ behavior.” Dr. Kenneth W. Houn Hearts live by being wounded. Wilde “I’m thankful we do have soap opera. It’s like they are so real. Once you start watching them you kinda get attached to them. So I just want to say thanks to the person who thought of soap operas.” Tammy Hodge “I do not like soap operas, because they are very silly. When one person gets killed on one show you see them on another one. I hate that about them.” Marvin Lunn A wounded heart is hard to cure. Goethe “What I like the most on the Young and the Restless is all the suspense and drama, and most of all I think Michael Damien, who plays Danny is so gorgeous.” Angie Chandler “I don't especially like soap operas because they are boring. Another reason why I don’t like them is because I could be doing better things. I think that some people get too attached to soap operas. Cindy Kelly The heaviness of the heart breaketh strength .. . take no heaviness to heart. Apocrypha

6 TRAUMA CENTER “The reason for the soaps’ resounding success in winning the teen audience is clear... they offer escapist entertainment featuring young characters with whom teens should like to identify. Psychologist believe that the acute emotional involvement kids have with soap characters runs deep. The soaps allow teen to vicariously encounter situations and emotions that they cannot yet experience themselves: In other words, soaps help them test out their own feeling and future roles.” Seventeen, March 1983 “In my opinion, soap operas are wonderful. I love to watch them. If I wasn’t at school I’d probably be home watching soap operas. My favorite soap is General Hospital. It’s great! It gives you a chance to get out of your‘Hum-Drum’ life. It has adventures and make- believe stories but some of the things you can believe.” Holly Schultz If misery loves company, misery has company enough. Thoreau I do not like soap operas because it is the most boring stuff I’ve ever watched. It is dumb to watch them when I can be doing something else with my time. Robert McDaniel I think that soaps really give children a bad influence. I don’t think children that don’t understand life should watch the soaps, because they might pick up bad habits. Tonya Gainey It just burns me up when the soap operas get really good. Then they put a news report on in the place of it. Naomi Robinson The loss of love is a terrible thing. They lie who say that death is worse. Contee Cullen
