The girls, the practical jokes that the riff-raf- fers and I pulled. I will also miss the athletic events and the coaches and the faculty. Practi- cal jokes such as the time two students locked Dr. Hitch in the Science wing were a large part of the student life here at St. John’s. One innovation for this year’s team was the summer football camp, which contributed to the spirited team’s efforts. Coach Stokes com- mented that the leadership of the seniors was a contributing factor in the team’s success and that the enthusiasm that they leave behind will be a stimulating force for the future. Achieving a 5 and 5 record for the season, the Blue Devils tri- umphed over West Florence, Mullins, Manning, and Lake City and ended with an exciting victory over Socastee in the last five seconds of the game. , 1 4 .i. i h i 12 1 St. Sevti i 1. Fortunately we did have Stacey Skinner, our editor, Angela Brown, our co-editor, Ms. June McCauley, our advisor and Ms. Mer- cer, our financial wizard. Oh, come now, maybe you just have not looked hard enough. Besides the various drama and music department productions, there is the continuting thrill and agony of year-round sports that SJ has to offer. Oh, and the night life in Darlington has a lot to offer, too, if you just know where to find it! There are the old Places like the β€œGreeks'' and Joe's, where our parents used to hang out. In the past five years. Darlington has grown considerably. To the list of classic hangouts has been added Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, and the Western Sizzlin’ Steak House, which are not only popular meeting places, but are areas of summer employment for many SJH students. (Incidentally, these establishments of fine cuisine cater to the students who take a chance to avoid the daily drudgery of eating cafeteria food during lunch period!) But of course, if the weekend rolls around and none of these places seem to be of interest to you, you can always pop in on the activities at the infamous Fast-Fare on N. Look No bones about it. you’re the best! A male chauvanist pig, eh? 207 Now that we, the Class of '81, approach the road of life we must now choose our separate ways. We must be strong in our stand in life, assume the responsibilities as our elders have, and set examples as young adults for those to follow. It is my hope that this annual will be treasured by those members of the student body at St. John's High School in the year 1981. Through all the disappointments and anxieties we’ve experienced, the annual staff hopes this book will be accepted with pride. I thank the members of the Blue Devil Staff for their enthusiasm to understand and learn the process of putting an annual together. I am very grateful for the efforts put forth by our advisor, Ms. McCauley. I give special thanks to Mr. Wingate, our sponsor, for the understanding he gave us. I also express gratitude to our photographer, Bill Stafford. The annual couldn't have been possible if he hadn’t devoted the time he did to it. β€œThanks, Bill for all the nights we stayed at school until 11:00 to 12:00”. To all the teachers whose classes we've missed for staff reasons, I would like to express my appreciation. In closing. I'd like to express my great appreciation and admiration of Mike Smith, our Taylor Publishing Company Representative, for his contin- uous guidance and support throughout the year. Stacy Skinner, Editor 208
