Si. John's Homecoming, a huge success this year, encompassed the entire week. Events included: a poster contest, a candy guessing contest, a mystery player contest, and the cutest football and cheer- leader baby picture contest. Our Devils defeated York in an exciting contest, resulting in a 28 to 14 score. Leading the action throughout the game, the Devils capped a thrilling victory. During the half-time ceremonies of the game, Elizabeth Bristow, sponsored by Donny Stegall, was crowned 1979 Homecoming Queen by Miss Jennie lee Holloman, 1978 Homecoming Queen. Assistant Principal Mr. Tim Watson pre- sented our queen with a dozen red roses. The 1979 Football Sweet- heart, Sara Psillos, sponsored by Chuck Lowder, received an auto- graphed football and six red roses by team co-captains Kenneth Gandy and Chuck Lowder. Other contestants and sponsors were: Marsha Askins, sponsored by Den- nis Timmons; Margaret Bristow, sponsored by Kenny Bryant; Debra Bruce, sponsored by Preston Charles; Tammy Christmas, spon- sored by George Reese; Dana Davis, sponsored by Tony Moore; Esther Edens, sponsored by Arty Harrell; Kim Edwards, sponsored by Larry Cox; Lera Henderson, spon- sored by Kenneth Gandy; Carol |ett, sponsored by Matthew' Holloman; Lillian Josey, sponsored by Levern Williamson, Terri Masneri, spon- sored by Phillip Lane; Melissa McCovvn, sponsored by Timmy Lee; Donna Scott, sponsored by Ricky Anderson; Terrio Smoak, sponsored by Sam Miller; and Lisa Weesner, sponsored by Rich Smothers. The senior class float featuring Ring York's Bell, took first place honor among the class floats which depicted popular songs. Other class themes were: Juniors, Ain't No Stopping Us Now ; Sophomores, The Main Event ; and Freshmen, Don't Bring Us Down. 1. Our 1979 Homecoming Queen, Eliza- beth Bristow 2.
