'  9 8LBE W DEVIL Published by The Senior Class SAINT JOHN’S HIGH Darlington, South Carolina FOREWORD The period in which we live and of our graduation from college offers a privilege for service to any person who is well prepared. May we think of the years spent at St. John’s as the initial period in this preparation for the opportunities that lie be- fore us. Now the time has come for us to part. As we leave these portals of St. John's, we leave behind the cherished memories that have endeared us to our Alma Mater. This yearbook we offer to the 1963 graduating class of St. John’s. Many years from now we may want to relive those days spent at our DEAR ALMA MATER. CONTENTS Title Foreword Dedication Faculty Classes Activities Features EDICATED TO . . . In the spring of 1949 a committee of stu- dents from each grade drew up a constitution which was ratified by the student body. The Student Council is i n charge o f Homecoming and May Day. It also renders services to the school such as taking charge of as- sembly. Other projects undertaken by the Student Council are a Beauty and Talent Contest, usually held be- fore Christmas, and a Care program. The Student Council helps to pro- mote school spirit. In accord with this, the Student Councils of Darling- ton and Hartsville jointly purchased a Sportsmanship Trophy to be kept by the school winning the majority of football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and track games between these two cities. It is the duty and privilege of the students to assist and support the Council in carrying out its functions. An Anchor Girl develops initiative and leadership, learns to live and work together with others, and is a useful citizen, to both her school and her community. Being a waitress for the teachers (no tips) and freezing to death selling football programs (no pay) are projects that have been en- joyed (?) by the girls this year.
