CLASS PROPHECY Time: February l, 1965 Scene: Home of the former JAYNE HOWLE, Pres. of the Sans Chatter Bridge Club, QAS the scene opens Jayne and ETHEL DURANT, Head of the French Department of St. John's, are busily preparing for the bridge club meeting. FRANCES TINDALL and BARBARA BY RD make up the bridge foursomej Jayne: Ethel: I do hope everything will be all right. Frances and Barbara will be arriving anytime now, Frances entertained so well last month. Yes, I know. Her husband helped her put up those beautiful decorations, Oh, here's Frances now. QEnter Frances! Frances: Hi, girls, Ready to get started? Jayne: No, Barbara's not here yet, She hasn't been on time since she got that job as model at BARBARA CL1FTON'S exclusive dress shop, QBarbara breezes in! Barbara Frances Barbara: Ethel: Frances Barbara Ethel: Jayne: Barbara Frances Jayne: France s Ethel: Barbara Ethel: Jayne: Frances Barbara Ethel: Hello everybody. I'm sorry I'm late but I had an appointment at MARTHA WARREN'S Beauty Shop, You know how hard it is to get an appointment with her, Let's get started---Barbara, it's your deal! I bid 2 hearts--Hearts ! --that reminds me. Did you go to JANE JOHNSON'S wedding? LAVERNE MOODY, our new minister, performed the ceremony. Wasn't the church decorated beautifully! JIMMY DIXON'S Decorating Service did it, you know, And the florist, PATSY JERNIGAN, gave Jane her bouquet of white orchids. Wasn't that sweet of her? BETTY FLOWERS catered for Jane at her reception, Isn't her business growing! Just everybody was at the wedding. SHELBA JEAN BRITT, accompanied by her pianist, JANETTE BYRD, sang at the wedding, They were on T.V, on the Firestone Program the other night and were just marvelous! Oh, by the way,did youwatch wrestling over WXYZ last night? It was the most exciting match! Two of the boys who finished High School with us-- Roaring REX CASTEEL and Jumping JOHN ANDERSON, They had to call it a draw because they were so well matched, In the middle of the fight, who should appear in a commercial but RAY NOR- WOOD, He endedalong speech with, So folks, buy Ray-Nor toupees and have beauti- ful hair like mine, Yes, but what I can't understand is why Referee BILLY RHODES insisted upon lying down on the floor and going to sleep. Rex accidently hit him and for no reason at all he went to sleep and couldn't be awakened. That was strange! But it was still a good fight. Doesn't GRAYLON DUFFY own that station now? They always have such good programs, Senator NED BLACKMON made an appearance on ALVIN DAVIS'S program Saturday and told us all about his new project. GENE DAVIS and BASIL JORDAN, two of the wealthiest farmers in South Carolina, are backing the Senator. So are most of the people around here, even the town people, JAKE ODOM, new owner of the Southernaire, is certainly behind the Senator. Speaking of Jake Odom, did you hear about the accident that happened in front of his place ? It seems that RHODES FORREST was rushing BILL SMITH and JULIUS BROAD- WELL to the airport in his taxicab--Bill had received a very urgent call to return to his post at the Citadel, though he had only been away two days: and Julius, who is head ofthe F.B,I,, was accompanying him to help calm the cadets. On the way Rhodes throw on the brakes at a stoplight and the cab turned over, Bill and Julius didn't mind that so much, but when Rhodes tried to make them pay for the damage--that was the last straw. BUDDY O'NEAL is Rhodes's lawyer, isn't he? Yes, and BILLY FLOWERS is representing Bill and Julius. I hadn't heard about that, Did they get hurt? DR. JULIAN LAWI-ION said that they only got a few bruises and a knot-on the head. Julius said, That guy doesn'tknow what he' s talking about. He should have been a vet! Dr. Lawhon'snurse, BETTY ADAMS, says that she was there when it happened and that Bill had been telling Rhodes to go faster, Oh, girls let's forget about that, I hate violence! Who played that King? Oh, did you see the movie playing at PEGGY WATFORD'S new theater yesterday? The Shield' starring Pola Godson, whom we knew in High School as POLLIE GOODSON, and that handsome OLIN SANSBURY , Didn't Pollie look glamorous! ODELL LLOYD, the direct- or, has such original ideas! Didn't VERMELLE POPE write the script? Yes, and did you notice that JO ANN ARNOLD was make-up director and PEARL FLOWERS, hair stylist? St John's graduates certainly get around, don't they! Speaking of St. John' s, have you heard about the new building program ? Coach CONRAD ANDREWS told Contractor JOEL PROSSER that the gym must seat at least two thousand. They had to turn so many people away from the basketball games this year because of inadequate seating that Principal MARY PSILLOS was making speeches in chapel begging some ofthe students to stay away, JOHN LANGSTON, pro basketball player came last Friday night, and even he was turned away,

CLASS PROPHECY Jayne: Yes, the policewoman VIVIAN BRYANT was terribly sorry that she had to arrest him that night, but he and CLAUDE VAUGHAN both know they are not supposed to try to climb in the gym windows. Ethel: I-Iasn't Claude's insurance business grown! They say that he has an office in almost every town in the Carolinas, Even Governor WHITTIE WEAVER says that he wouldn't have his insurance with any other company--too risky! Frances: Had you realized that Whittie was the first governor ever to be elected by the women., It was so exciting when VELVELYN WATFORD, his Campaign Manager, had us organize to elect him! Did you trump that trick? Ethel: Girls, not trying to change the subject, but did you read in the paper that JO ANN SANS- BURY was going to swim the English Channel today? Jayne: What paper was that in? We only take The Daily. KATHY WALL is editor of that, you know, Ethel: That's the one it was in, Jayne. You know we wouldn't take any other, You never do read anything but the funnies. Jayne: My children must bejust like me because little Jayne is always tearing the paper apart trying to find DAVID BROACI-I'S comic strip. Frances: Well, personally, 1 like ALICE GRANTHAM'S column, She always has such helpful hints for homemakers, Why, she's practically taken Betty Crocker's place, Barbara: Speaking of homemakers, did you see where MARY RAYNOR HARPER was selected as the Housewife of the Year. Jayne: I always did think she would make a good wife! Frances: Barbara, will you pick up that card--it's almost under your foot, It's the ace of dia- rnonds. Ethel: Have you seen ALICE DRAKE'S diamond? She married one of the richest men in the United States and has gone to Hawaii for her honeymoon, They flew over on one of his planes--you know he owns an airline--and guess who was piloting them--MARY FRAN- CES WINDHAM, LURLEEN WEAVER and CAROLYN DENNIS were the stewardessesi Mary Frances told me that LOVELLE ADAMS had engaged her to fly him to Paris to check on his vineyards. Jayne: Paris! Ethel, that's it! I knew I had something to tell you! I'm sure you all remember TERRY SIMPSON--Igotaletter from her the other day just before she sailed for Paris, She's going to be a can-can dancer at the Palace Royale , one'of the swankiest night clubs over there. ANN SOMPAYRAC is going to meet her at the dock, That's one of Ann's paintings over the mantel--my husband says that she is one of the best artists anywhere--but I don't know too much about modern art, Barbara: Maybe they'll see Mademoiselle Dicksone. Of course, we knew her in High School as BETTY DICKSON, but even then she could design beautiful clothes, She designed that gorgerous gown that JENNY BONNOITT had on at the Chemist Convention. Jenny got it at half price--only 53000, because she and Betty were such good friends in High School, Frances: Let's see now. I think I'll bid 6 spades. QSilence for awhilej Jayne: Guess who I saw in Charleston last week--ALVIN ODOM and EARL MARSHALL, Alvin is now an admiral and Earl owns a shipping line, They were having dinner together at the Drop Anchor Inn. SARA LOU DAVIS owns that now and DICK MCNEESE is her head chef. Barbara: Really? No wonder the food is so good! Frances: Gosh, look at the time! I have to meet ANN DAVIDSON in five minutes! She's just written a biography, FRANKLIN THOMAS, DAREDEVIL STOCK CAR RACER, , and wanted to give PATSY STURGEON the first chance to publish it since they were friends in school, Well, guess I'd better go pick her up now. Ienjoyed the game, Goodbye. fFrances departs! Barbara: Jayne, let me help you clean up. I'm not in a hurry. Ethel: Oh, I forgot to tell you! I saw FRANCES GUY yesterday and she showed me the plans for her new motel, TOMMY ODOM designed it and JOE COOK did the landscaping. It really is going to be beautiful! QThe wall-clock strikes six., Horrors! Six o'clock! I simply must go. I have a date at seven, Barbara: Bye Jayne, Ethel. I certainly did enjoy playing bridge with you this evening! Ethel: Bridge? I thought we were playing canasta! Jayne Howle, Ethel DuRant, Class Prophets
