CLASS PROPHECY Class of 1949 Springtime with Its many voices beckoned us Into the open. We strolled down Spain Street Into the Park, enjoying the new freshness of the season. The last rays of the evening sun hardly penetrated the thick foliage, casting an eerie light throughout the forest. We hastened our footsteps In the direotlon of home when we heard muffled footfalls behind us. Turning, we saw In tattered clothes an old hag bent over her walking-stick. Her cackle rang through the forest as she gllirpsed the terror In our eyes. Fear rooted us to the spot and we were un- able to run as she advanced slowly toward us. Peering for a moment into our startled faces, she cackled again and thrust a small box Into our trembling hands. Without a word she turned and disappeared Into the gathering darkness. Our hearts in our mouths, we fled swiftly out of the park and safely home. After sitting awhile in the bright cheerfulness of the living room, we summoned enough courage to open the box. From the box we took a wrinkled sheet of paper. This is what we read: June 7, 1959 Dear Betsy and Betty Carol, You will be very surprised to find this letter to you dated 1959, but as it seems, this is the prophecy of you and your classmates of the Class of 1949.
