BADEN HA LL Baden Hal! Carries Founderjs Name Baden I-Iall, the first building on St. john's College campus, was dedicated on March l, l894, and was named after john Peter Baden, founder of St. john's College. The building has been completely remodeled. Prom l894 until l9l4 it served as administration building, classroom building, library, kitchen, dining room, power plant, and gymnasium. It also served as a college men's dormitory. Baden Hall now houses offices of professors, the infirmary, and student lounge. This year the doctor's office, the book store, and the custodian's residence were added. 8

LIB RA R Y New Libragz Ojj?rs Many Services The 1962-1963 schoolyear was the first in which students had the use of the new library facilities for the entire year. Students enjoyed the comparative quiet and pleasant atmosphere of their library which has a seating capacity of l85 for study, reading, and quiet sociability. Additional shelves were installed during the fall to complete the stack area. The entire library has shelf space for 50, U00 volumes. Facilities include offices for the librarian, a separate area for the processing ofbooks and periodicals and for binding and repairing them, eleven private study rooms for faculty members, and a periodical room . An audiovisual classroom seats 70, and two conference rooms can be combined to seat 25. Typing facilities for students are also provided. Special sections are set aside for displays, exhibits, teachingaids, and special equip- ment of various kinds. The St. john's College Library was one of three buildings that received a Merit Award from the Kansas chapter ofthe American Institute of Architects at a Builders Forum meeting held in September at Topeka. The award was made to the architect and builder for making an outstanding contribution to good architecture through the skilled erection of a project. i E 2 f .L , W l , 10
