Boland, but also that of the Right Reverend Monsignor Hill. We thank them both for their enthusiastic response to our every need and the opportu- nity they have given us, to have par- ticipated in and partake of all the beauty, pageantry, and holiness of cathedral services, during our high school years. MOST REVEREND THOMAS A. BOLAND, S.T.D. Bishop of Paterson The role of father in the home covers a multitude of responsibilities -among them spiritual guidance in the formation of character. ln high school, our home, away from home, Bishop Boland, has exercised this most important task in the most up- lifting of ways. From him, we, in common with all the members of the Paterson diocese, have received the most elusive benefit-stabilizing authority based on gentleness and Christian charity. RIGHT REVEREND MONSIGNOR WALTER H. HILL Pastor Another phase of paternal respon- sibility is the support of his family to provide them with food, clothing, and shelter. By continually improv- ing, repairing, and beautifying our school, Monsignor Hill has given us the last of these, by putting at our disposal the finest of text books and supplies, his given us food for thought: and last but not least by forever cheering us on and boosting our morale, he has given us the school spirit which is the invisible uniform of every loyal student of St. John's. 6 Eas- N1 4: . Father Boyle has accom- plished all this and more in the most masterful of ways and with princely generosity. For four years, his time and assistance with our dances, sports, and clubs have been at our disposal so that not the slightest morsel of fun has been denied us. IW K-.J Reverend Thomas J. The Student Council Under the expert direction of Sister Mary Virginia, the Council, this year accomplished more and took a more prominent place in school affairs than ever before. Typical of the forward- thinking program which drew applause on all sides, was the superb Parents Day, more professionally carried out and successfully managed than ever before. Another striking step was the Council's relentless campaign to better its financial standing and widen its influence by means of Friday-Niters , and equally happy social endeavors. 20 A Secretary Burgio submits his minutes to the board of directors: Dorothy Finu- Can. Besides its routine business of dis- cussing the current trends in religious spirit, the club is particularly dear to the hearts of the seniors, since it an- nually sponsors a Farewell Dance, the proceeds ot which go to buy each grad- uate a Sunday missal, as well as plan- ning and serving the Communion Breakfast each Recollection Day. 2l 134, I S I . Continually advancing each year in scholastic events our honor roll students now include Catherine Bergin, Joan Christie, John Martin, Gertrude Tremmel, and Thomas Church. The literary talent of Bob McKeown is evident in his columns in the Flash, the weekly school paper, that has grown more and more popular with the help of Sister Margaret Miriam, our inspiring homeroom teacher. Among the participants in athletics are brilliant cagers Vincent Bridge and Joseph Draney, cheerleader Joan Dree- land, and on the diamond, Thomas Maloney. The sincerest form of flat- tery is imitation, and part of the fun of being a senior is the adulation of the underclass- men. Just as younger brothers and sisters copy your slightest movement at homeg in school you've been the guiding norm for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to meet. lt's been a practical lesson in the power of example with rich rewards of family unity and school friendships. i K .
