SODALITY The Sodality ot' the Blessed Virgin Mary was estahlished at Saint .lohn's in 15935 under the protection ot' the Queen of the ,Holy Rosary and the secondary patronage ol' Saint llernadettc ol' Lourdes. Since it is affiliated with the primary sodality in Rome, it enjoys special privileges and indulgences. Sodalists work l'or a threefold purpose- lirst. personal holiness through devotion to Mary, next the l1elp of tl1e neighhor in the spiritual and corporal works ol' mercy: and finally for the defense and spread ol' the Faith. Our Sodality, nuinheringg' eighty inenihers, meets every two weeks to recite the Office ol' the lnnnaculate Conception, to meditate hriefly on some phase ol' the lil'e ol' Christ or ot' His Blessed Mother, and to dis- cuss ways and means ol' carrying' out henelicial projects. The meet- ings are conducted hy the oiicicers, chosen annually hy popular Vote. Students now holding office are: Mary Buck, presidentg Dorothy Mor- rison, vice-president, and Marguerite 'llhornton, secretary. l+lntertain- ment is provided at meetings hy selected Soclalists and relfreshnients served hy groups in rotation. ' Among activities hrought to a successful terniination in the present year were: the distribution of clothing to the needyg the preparation ol' Christnias haskets for the poorg the setting aside of a sacrifice fund during Noveinher I'or the Holy Soulsg the collection of Catholic period- icals l'or the missions and the ransom and adoption for perpetual care ol' an Indian hahy, through the inediuin of the Propagation of the Faith. Most ol' the aluninae sodalists have hecoine inenihers of the Parish Rosary Society. A reunion ol' nlenlhers takes place in June at the annual Connnunion l3reakl'ast. The Handniaids ol' The Blessed Sacrament, recently organized with Mary Riley as Chairman, and having a registration of thirty nieinhers, l'U1'11l a special connnittee oi' the sodality. Their aiin is the fostering' ol' deeper devotion to the lllucharistic Christ hy the weekly reception ol' lloly Connnunion. The continued sincere cooperation of the sodalists will make Holy Rosary Sodality a vital Factor in schoo' life. lllARY BUCK '41 .
