Strategy Means Success s 2 5 Father Kavanaugh, Athletic Director, Mr. Berado, Line Coach, Mr. Clemens, Head Coach, Mr. Deeb, Junior Varsity Coach, Mr. McAuliffe, Junior Varsity Coach. It does take eleven men to make a team. . . eleven and then some. . .There's replacements, depth and a million other intricacies that could happen to cause a fatal shortage during the game. It takes a coaching staff. . .dedicated to the pur- pose of building boys-into young manhood, building a sturdy body to contain the alert mind necessary to make instantaneous de- cisions on the field. Such men we have at St. John Vianney High. Father Kavanaugh, our Moderator, is ever alert to the boys' needs, seeming to sense their every desire to better them- selves for the sake of the team. Backing Father are four stalwart men who enjoy the full meaning of athletics in ac- tion. They are quick to see a boy's mis- takes, to assist him in correcting his defects . . .of fathering him along to better things in sportmanship. Here our staff and moderator go over materials that suggest new formations and plays. 62

Hornets March to Victory The toss of the coin, the whistle, the pigskin flies through the air . . .the game is on. Our boys are quick to take ad- vantage of the opponents errors ...their linemen were beaten on the charge-our backs crashed through. Goal line in sight. . .our Hornets were not to be denied.. .John Torreano, tackle, eligible to play in this formation, heads for pay- dirt. 64
