With the loss of Bommarito and Swacher, the Vianney Hockey team had an uphill battle from the start. Coach Bro. Grass was looking forward lo a .500 season. With Gary Haas and Bill Higgins, picking up the scoring slack and goalie Ray Stock shutting the door to potential scorers, the team closed out the season with a 18-6-2 record. Defen- sive strength was given the team by jim Geringer and Nlark Wittich. Track Takes CAC This year in track the Criffins have put together one of the finest track teams here at Vianney. During this season the Griffins lost only one dual meet, and in the Vianney Relays, Clayton Invitational and Maplewood Relays have finished high, winning the Open division in the Vianney Relays. ln the district meet at Kirkwood, the Criffins finished fifth, qualifying nine cindermen to state. In the CAC meet at Vianney, the Griffins captured the CAC crown once again over Rosary, the defending champs, edging them 59-52 with Aquinas finishing third. The Griffins were led by Bill Fechner as he took first place in the high jump, long jump and triple jump and finishing second in the discus. C-ood work Bill! School records set this year in track have been Tim Bosslet setting a new record in both the 100 and 220 yd. dash. Mark Lux set the school record in the 440 and jim Loyet setting the record books straight in the mile and two mile. Bill Fechner set the record in the high jtunp, long jump, and triple jump. The two mile relay team also set the record this year.
