Chess Club Although the Vianney Chess Club was formed only two years ago, 1974 was the first year the Griffins had a team competing in the St. Louis High School League. Despite a dismal beginning, the much improved team finished strong, easily winning the Novice Division of the Lindbergh Spring Invitational Tournament with 13 wins, four draws and three losses for a total of 15 points. Individ- ual first place trophies were won by Mark Hizer on first board, Mike Catanzaro on second board and Tom'Pauling on fifth board. Bob McMullen and Paul Curtin also gained creditable scores. Team captain, Mark Hizer, earned a High School League trophy by tying for most points scored in the Southwest Division of the League. The Club moderators for 1973-74 were Mr. Robert Hoffman and Bro. John Harrmlan. - s - X 1, X. . 12255, A r T . Students Attend Group Masses Vianncy once again has shown its superiority in surpassing the usual hum-drum Mass. In obser- vance of a number of these Masses, it was realized that Vianney has whipped them hands down. After listening to such orations by the Vianney clergy, it can safely be said that they positively affected the student body. None of this could have been possible without Fr. Tobin, Fr. Cahill and Fr. Piekarski and all the fine singers and musicians. Top Right: Fr. Tobin gives the homily at open- ing of school Mass. Center Left: Communion time. Center Right: Seniors at mass. Girl Reps One of the more important factors in the publicity of Vianney events was the Girl Representatives. The job of these girl reps is to let the students in their respective schools know what is going on. This year's girl reps candidates were invited to a gym night, attended by ally seniors who wished to come, in order that all might become better acquainted. Several days later the reps were chosen. Under the direction of Bill Higgins, the reps attended weekly meetings. At these meetings suggestions were made, ideas were exchanged so that attendance at dances, carnivals, and so forth, would be successful and prosperous.
