Baseball Is Best Ever The 1973 baseball team proved to be the best ever at Vianney. With strong pitching from K. McGrath, R. Ott and P. Mulligan, and good hitting. the Griffins ended with a l-7 record, placing 2nd in the CAC. The Griffins started slowly, losing 2 out of 3, then went on to win 4 straight, taking the Brentwood tourney. This was the lst baseball trophy ever won by Vianney. ln the tourney, the Griffins defeated Maplewood 6-3 and Brentwood 9-O. The latter game played in a drizzle. In CAC competition, the Griffins were in lst place until the final game, losing a heart-breaker to St. Mary's I-0, the CAC co-champ with Aquinas. Augustinian transfer, K. McGrath won 5 with an ERA of 0.76. J. Wehrle led the hitters with a .369. J. Tabash was the Griffins captain. Seven players were named on CAC all-confer- ence teams. 'itu- . ,Q .1 .
