JOHN VIANNEY HIGH SCHOOL 241 South Detroit Street Los Angeles 36, California sis. 35372 ' TES? E My dear Young Men: As those of us who are in the upper brackets of age reflect on the past, we recall with great pleasure and much satisfaction the great influence that professors under whom we have been fortunate to sit, have made upon our thinking and our ideals. I am confident that you young men who are being trained under the system of the thinking of the angelic Doctor, St. Thomas, are indeed most fortunate, and we are hopeful that his blessings will be bountiful upon you in the cultivation of your intellect and above all in the channels of sanctity. Asking Our Lady to ever watch over you, and with sincere best wishes, I am Faithfully yours in Christ, '7' I 1, X K 'ggfzab I ARCHBISHOP of Los Angeles f 5:-.:' MOST REVEREND TIMOTHY MANNING, D.D., j.C.D. It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the pres- ent graduating class, the largest in the school's short history. You have brought honor and recognition to your school. May you carry on in the high traditions with which you have been associated and which you have helped to establish. As pastor of Cathedral Chapel parish, which has been closely related to the school's beginnings and expansion, I pray that your lives may be enriched with God's choicest blessings. As President of St. John Vianney I pray that you will bring honor upon your Alma Mater and ever remain close in spirit and activity to the school's program. Praying God's blessing upon you, Right Reverend Msg. james E. Dolan 5 we lgrinciloa H. To the Class of '59: The usual manner of addressing seniors emphasizes the need of looking to the future. Foresight indeed is an important part of prudence, the virtue by which we plan our activities toward a worth- while goal. We hope, however, that in planning for the future Jon have not learned to live only for the future. A man's life shoul be like a beautiful tapestry which is conceived and weaved piece by piece, with the idea of the whole fabric uppermost in the mind at all times. But each segment of this tapestry is in itself important. Man's goal is to glorify God and each daily experience should give testi- mony to the perfection and goodness of Being that is God. This glorification of God is the source of man's happiness. May you weave each new pattern in your daily life experience with joy and gladness in the doing and may the role that St. John Vianney has played in your life be an important means of learning the craft of living. Our prayers be with you that the lessons you have learned from the Car- penter's Son may instruct you how to live and work here on earth that you may live the fullness of life eternally. God's blessing be upon you, William Moore, O.P. l iff 1 f Wir 010i f f f 'ff f H I mfW0ff0ffW1mKMv NH I ff I Honlalffl y ,yff I1 0 f If ' 'WWW 'Mf, Fi f r .nam W WMHA' K fff , WZZWW f x f1,', w f W 41 ff f 4 Q f X I 7 X X 'ff ff X -- 1115 RN NK XR gf Q ww , V X' Elf? 141552 'Ziff' , X.
