Provincial My dear Students of St. john Vianney High School: It is most kind of you to dedicate The Calarogan to me this year. As you know, your annual is named after the birthplace of St. Dominic, Calaruega, Spain. When Dominic was a student like yourselves, we read that he was eager to learn all that could be known of God, His world, and of the great human family dwelling therein. One incident during his student years, however, shows us the outstanding characteris- tic of the young man who was to become a world-renowned leader of men. Observing the great poverty and suffering of the people during a period of famine, Dominic sold the manuscripts that were so precious to him for his studies, and which he had even annotated with his own hand, and gave the proceeds to the poor. Charity, a love for each individual human person, was the dominant note of his personality. This love he had learned from his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
