Throughout the school year, they have many -activities, first of all, they organize the class dances, the Christmas Dance and the Turkey Trot, and, this year, the new Happening dance, which was a great success, Also, this year, -the inter-school relationship between Saint Maria Goretti and Bishop Neumann was strengthened. These meetings have proven beneficial to all involved. But the Student Council does not stop there, all their achievements cannot be written down, but one can rest assured that if there is a iob to be done, it will be clone! Yes, they do a- wonderful job, thanks to the supervision of their moderator, Mr. Robert Vacchiano. Ray Turchi, Vice-President, makes the necessary calls for the Hap- pening . t Mr. Robert Vacchiono, Moderator of the Student Council, makes a last minute check on the arrangements for a convocation. Phil Battaglia, Secretary, stops his work to contribute another of his brilliant ideas to the success of the Student Council. 64 Jim Minieri, President, takes a well-deserved break. The Soul Devalents aided greatly in making the annual Christmas Dance a success. The Junior and Senior homeroom representatives appear to be taking a breather between discussions. FORENSIC U ION A typical after-school atmosphere exists as members do some extra research in Extemporaneous Speech. The Varsity Debators prepare for another outstanding showing of argu- mentative debatep L to R: Jerry Murray, Armand Pandola, Al Tumini, and Roger Daly. The Forensic Union is an important part of the intel- lectual set at Neumann. This activity strives toward academic betterment by producing public speakers. Most of the members 'are in the upper part of their class. Last year, the Union came in first place in the Philadelphia Forensic League. Aside from this achievement they also placed third in the state. The credit for the Union's success goes to the hard-working members who made a fine showing again this year and also to Father Thomas Meulemans for his superb leadership. It seems that Mr. Harron and his assistant have been able to take the light from the lantern and portray it on canvas. ROCKET -he J Cooperation is a key factor in editing a paper as is shown by the pleasant expression of Sports Editor Larry Graham, with assistants Charlie Lawrence and Don Flanigan. 70 Underclassmen members meet with Senior, Nick Colonna, to discuss possibilities for new material. Membership in the Rocket is not all work as seen in the smiling faces of the editors. Here, Pat Sweeney and Rich Bottari retlne the Rocket headlines for the coming edition. The diligent eye of Rocket Editor, Larry Russo, makes sure that every edition becomes a sure winner. Checking negatives is an important facet of Frank Burns' efforts to better the school paper. li Lou DeMarco, copy editor, seeks open opinion from assistants, Frank Colonna and Ed Gabriele. It appears that professional iournalists will not be the only products of the Rocket. Faced with the challenge of pleasing a demanding audience with varied interests, the newly installed ROCKET moderator and editorial staff set out to pro- duce the kind of newspaper that would serve all the facets of our school. Intensive coverage was extended to all activities and sports and an attempt was made to follow a generally moderate line on most issues. Through their efforts, the Rocket has established itself as one of the most eFFective, unifying, and developing agents in Bishop Neumann. LANGU GE CLUB QQ emi: .. Clark Jimmy has established himself as one of the most loyal members of this year's graduating class. Although well-known for his services at the Saturday night dance, Jim also participates in many other extracurricular activities. These in- clude the St. Norbert Society and the Student Guides. Alfonso A. Tumini A profound sense of awareness in school affairs is an important factor in the de- velopment of a student's personality. Al has shown a deep sense of pride in his school's activities and is involved in the Forensic Union and Intramural Football. Although actually reserved, he has con- tributed much to the success of this year's Varsity Debating Team. l Roger J. Daly The sign of a good public speaker is his singular style. Roger has cultivated his particular style to a point of great matur- ation. Besides his personal achievements as a debater, he has also made great administrative accomplishments as Presi- dent of Neumann's Forensic Union. Ralph P. Turchi Combining sincerity, perseverance, and an amazingly quick wit, Ray has estab- lished himself as a maior advocate of student action. Besides his diligent work as Student Council Vice-President, he is also noted as a leading asset in our Varsity Basketball Squad. His undeniable humor has endeared him to the members of the Class of 1968. y. iii James J. Minieri If any singular trait were to be isolated from the complex personality of our Stu- dent Council President, it must be devo- tion to duty. Jim works many hours after school to better the lot of the average Neumann student through carefully plan- ned convocations and activities. ,KF P , Ralph C. Zagrabbe Few people are fortunate enough to have great achievements in both the field of sports and academic success. Ralph, our Senior Class President, has succeeded in both these fields. He was selected to the first team All-Catholic in the position of guard and has accomplished a high de- gree of academic proficiency during his stay at Bishop Neumann. The qualities which make a person outstanding are varied. They include a sincere devotion to duty, participation in school atifairs, and involve- ment in extracurricular activities. This year, we are proud to recognize six men who personify the word outstanding. These men, the first members of what will be a regular sec- tion in succeeding yearbooks, were selected by their teachers as the most dynamic members of the Class of 1968. Their participation, sense of devotion, and involvement has served as a guid- ing light for their fellow class members. Each has worked diligently in his respective field and has attained a degree of proficiency and sense of accomplishment in his work. It is with a great sense of satisfaction and decorum that the Crystal announces the Out- standing Seniors for 1968. i QQNXAN N 'LUG RTITUC 'OFHA pENS Q of Q 0 O fy T o Co m Z5 if 1, E if v F O 4 O62 QQ' Jim Minieri, President of the Student Council. It shares the spotlight with the Commencement Exercises in being the most important function of the year. This Mass signities the presence of God in every young man's life as he walks up the road toward manhood. When they enter the Cathedral, the Seniors are still boys re-ady to become men. The ceremonies soon instill the realization that they are no longer schoolboys with little responsibility or prestige but rather are transformed into men, entering today's world as men. Commencement! This one word brings the four years of a person's high school life to a close. lt is something which wipes away the anguish of the trials encountered and emphasizes the enjoyable experiences that occurred during our stay at Bishop Neumann. lt is an experience which Seniors refer to with pride, Juniors look forward to in anticipation, and Freshmen and Sophomores dream about wonderingly. As Commencement approaches we reflect on our past accomplishments and look forward to even greater achievements in the future. We realize our shortcomings and anticipate what awaits us. Joys and sorrows, likes and dislikes, are all summed up 'nostalgically in one word-Com- mencement! Philip D. Abate 5 ,J An-son M. Alfano Michael A. Angelitis H ugo J.
