Listen to the rhythmical tap, tap, tap, coming from the typing room . . . Boys control class elections . . . Iunior Athletes form St. Iohn backfield . . . Exams are not so tough . . . Basketball is around the corner . . . Our stars form the forward offense . . . Our first dramatic debut is Superstitious Sadie . . . A joyous Christmas party is sponsored by the efficient juniors . . . What fun! . . . A rollicking sleighride party . . . Oh, those mid-semester tests . . . SENIIJR CLASS HISTORY September 1935 As frfty 1lV9 green freshmen we entered the portals of St Iohn Hrgh settlng out on a new venture We were mtroduced to new subJects Latm Algebra and Blology Whew' These same green freshles submrtted the prlze wrnmng float 1n the annual Homecommg Pa rade How we reveled 1n watchmg basketball and football games on passes The school paper The St Iohn VOICG was lntroduced and pubhshed by the sen1ors Then Iune September 1937 Sophomores' forty four 1n number Homecomlng' And aga1n we Won frrst prrze for our floatl Then more ser1ous thought when the h1gh school students lapsed 1nto srlence for three days the re treat Aga1n fun when the h1gh school get togethers were promot d by the varrous classes the sophomores Wash1ngton Blrthday Party member? What a glor1ous trme' Sle1gh bells' and Jolly fun! September 1938 Forty frve Junrors' The commerclal department proved fascrnatrng for most of us and several of our number shared 1n contrrbutrng to The St Iohn Vo1ce a paper well on 1ts way to success by th1 trme Homecommg our entry 1n the float parade t1ed for top honors wrth the sen1ors float The h1gh school play MISS lnformat1on featured several Frxm Aunt Fanny -a huge success' Our sklll as chemlsts was proven ln the laboratory Fortune smtled on three Jumors when they were halled wrnners m the annual Fxre Preventxon essay contest Happy were we mdeed when we recetved our long awa1ted class rlngs Thrs marked the end of another year and we were looklng to our last year w1th great enthus1asm and expectancy September 1939 Flashl Forty three sen1ors returned to complete the f1n1sh mg year what a year' aga1n We captured flrst prlze for our large model shrp submrtted 1n the Homecommg parade What emoyable hours we spent ed1t1ng The St Iohn Vo1ce ' W1th what anx1ety we awalted each new publ1cat1on Then we sen1ors put our heads together and selected the class colors p1nk and whlte the class flower carnahon and the class motto Launched but not anchored The motto was chosen because lt frtted 1n so well wrth the nautrcal theme of the Commencement announcement the sen1ors made therr cho1ce Txme to posel and the photographer snapped the DICTUIGS of sen1ors for the annual-and the results' D111gently we gathered mater1al surtable for the Chutmg Star emoyable work' Agaln we umted rn good sprrrt to sponsor the Amateur program wh1ch was a pro gram' And then? the seruor class play' How we enroyed present1ng 1tI Tlme passed all too qu1ckly and we had made our last arrangements for our graduatron Commencement Day' W1th glowing eyes we the graduates rece1ved our d1plomas conferred on us by the Very Reverend Iohn I Sprangers Ioan M Hermsen 40 t16l . . . , . , . . . , c juniors . . . SUPHUMURE CLASS HISTORY Bright and cheerful, we, of the class of '42, began our second year . . . Dauntlessly we approached our studies . . . History, English, Religion, Latin or German . . . found them interesting and delightful . . . Geometry was every bit as difficult as was predicted . . . maybe more so! . . . The Homecoming was the big event of the year . . . Well, what if our float did lose? It was all in the game . . . Sophomores Vied with other classes in scholastic activities . . . Athletics got their full share of attention, too . . . especially basketball . . . Memories of hard work and delightful fun of our sophomore year linger on . . .
