R Sie-bers Captain BOXING Boxing commenced its third year at St. lohn with the return of seven lettermen. After three intramural bouts a team of aspiring and promising youths was chosen to compete in the interscholastic meets. Marvin Schuler an amateur boxer of recent fame was engaged as the new coach and the mitt slingers readily accepted his timely instructions on the fine points in the manly art Known to every one as Dago he coach became a close friend of all giving much time and effort for the betterment of the team Class and distinction was St lohn s when the athletic director Rev I D G yer purchased rich looking gold and blue robes and trunks the pride of every Dutchman boxer Much experience was realized when three boxers Koehn Baumgart and Siebers battled in the Green Bay Golden Glove Tournament Koehn at l35 reached the semifinals and Siebers at 127 pounds advanced to the finals in which he too was unfortunately surpassed His endeav ors were rewarded with a bronze glove The season closed with a bright outlook for the future of St Iohn pugilists since only four lettermen are lost through graduation o Lenz Ko Wm X x l , , t , 4 , y y y . i t V V V . . . g ,, HI T ' I ' ' ' A Q , . . . . c , , , I I ' - G.
