PAGE sz AQUILA Basketball ITH four veterans from the prevlous year the Llttle Green of Samt ohn Hxgh amassed a decldedly 1mpress1ve record of twenty three victories and two defeats At the beglnnmg of the season the outcome looked rather doubtful but wlth the superb coachmg and gu1dance of Coach Wnllram Haller the team toppled Meredith Dover Tilton Peterboro South Portland at Boston Garden Lawrence Central Catholic Franklm and Laconla The Flghtlng Irlsh met their flrst defeat at the hands of Lebanon Hlgh 21 20 and met only one more downfall later m the season m the game wxth the very aggressnve Lawrence team maklng the score 46 38 Salnt ohn s team was mvlted to attend the State Tournament at Durham and after trekking for three days returned to Con cord vuth the Class B champnonshxp by defeatmg Somersworth Pembroke and Llttleton One month later the team traveled to Boston to compete ln the New England Catholxc Tournament held at Boston Arena Here the team agam captured the tntle by downing Cheverus of Portland Sacred Heart of Holyoke and Samt Marys of Waltham ln very close and well fought games' The team brought back most of the trophles that were awarded and had the dnstmgulshed honor of recexvmg them from H15 Excellency Archbnshop Cushmg Concord gathered at the ranl road statlon to welcome the heroes Thxs years team was spark plugged by the clever playmg of Tommy Hardrman who scored three hundred seventy one polnts durmg the season made All State All Boston Garden and All New England teams Billy Shea a cat lnke guard and an athlete consldered by spectators as the coolest player ever to run on the hardwood zestnly supplemented Tommys work B111 unrk who made All State and All New England was an lmportant factor throughout because of his team work vuth Tommy and h1s contmual control of both backboards jaunty johnny Fraser who was the biggest surprise of the year showed remarkable prowess as a guard Joe OShea was a comfortable rellef man along wnth Dlck Forest B1lly acobs Dick Merrxll Leo Landry and Lawrence Reagan Jules S1roy the play maker of the team and Co Captam elect deserves a great deal of credlt The deep gratntude of the team ns extended to the cmzens of Concord for the superfine trnp to Washxngton and New York vsh1ch they financed for the boys during Easter vacation Three cheers for our Concord frlends' W1 Umm Qulrk 46 I-ful'I-I-I-I-1.1.1.1-1-lv!-l-l-f-,1-f,,f-f.,1.1.f.1-1.11.1 9 Y - . . . . 7 9 9 9 9 - . . 9 9 9 s ' 1 9 ', - .
