Remember how we dlsrupted the t1me schedule of the school but 1n the end everybody got at least one hot dog and the lucky ones got' ' ' l ' ' Whlle we were unlors Father Francoeur was assxgncd to our parxsh At once he became an act1ve promoter of school act1v1t1es Many of the members of our class jomed the Sclnola Cantorum wh1ch Father organlzed We were very proud the hrst t1me we sang the I-hgh Mass for our servlcemen who had glven the1r llves for our country Each week 1n our own school we bought elther stamps or bonds for the war effort we had shared in gatherxng scrap and paper too but thls manner of honorlng our boys was the begxnnmg of somethlng very dear to us Flnally came what we consider the blggest event of the year the un1or Sen1or banquet It was 1ndeed the most colorful banquet CVCX' glven and we dare anyone t0 deny that We Ceftalnly found out that we possessed very capable houselceepers The cleanlng of the closet was a noble job Qur class d1d not stop wxth a banquet for we wlshed to do more for a class that would probably be sendmg bovs overseas very soon We gave the Senlors a Communlon brealcfast at the Colonlal Inn There we gave a toast to the year gone by a year of wresthng w th French verbs of dlssectxng hsh and frogs of frownlng over the tw1sts and turns of shorthand of hobnobblng w1th Amerrcan men and women of letters yes a year of worlc and a year of pleasure The graduatlon goal seemed very near the day we entered school rn September 1944 as Semors Our last year was a green banner one ln the held of sports Our boys were 1nv1ted to the State Tourna ment 1n Durham New Hampshxre and later rece1ved s1lver baslcet balls for wmnmg m the seml hnals there The team also played 1n the Cathol1c Tournament 1n Boston Our cheer leaders were very faxthful to thelr duty and drd a rous ng good Job 1n the cheermg secnon Members of the Senlor Class also belonged to Father Franco ur s Flfe and Drum Corps John Sulllvan b came Fathers r1ght hand man IH the drummmg sect1on The Lamora s1sters were drumm rs and Louxse Harrlson played the lyre Some of the boys led the color guard when the corps made 1ts hrst pubhc appearance so we were well represented xn th1s new HCIIVIIY We were both sorry and proud to lose Thomas Conley who is - -1-1.1-1.1-,.,.,.,.f.,,. . . . .1 ' 1 a a 1 J , ' 9 s a a a , . 7 I Y X . , Z 7 7 7 a v ' , . 9 7 ' ' 1 Q - . . , . 9 - . . . . . . AQUIIA PAGE Illllllllllllllllllllllllllll Class History NE DAY early in September, 1941 friends and future friends assembled at Mass to begin a new and important chapter in their school lives After Monsignors heart warming welcome, the new pupils left the church and hastened to the Freshman room for they were eager to see their new environment From that moment on Saint ohn High School began to rise from the ranks of the obscure to the heights of the scholastic world Members of the class were 1n1t1ated into the Science and Latin Clubs both under the direction of Sister M Eulalia, then came admittance into Sister oans Choral Club Boys who were later to make a name in the world of sports trudged nightly after school After school sessions, parties, Cscar and faces of old frlends fill pages of our Freshman memory book In later years we shall dwell on them, but now let us turn the page to our Sophomore year When we gathered in the Sophomore room, we did not realize th treat in store for us Im referring to that fellow Eli of course Need I say more' If your conscience pricks you when you read his name, you may well strike your breast and say, All my fault We shall never forget Sister Magdalens radio or Wilfred Brodeur The att exhibits, too, made school more interesting and us more cultured, we hope Our art scrapbooks will ever remind us of the days that took wings while we were Sophomores Before we knew it, we were preparing for the dreaded finals but these finals had one happy element in them they reminded us of summer vacation We were greeted by Sister Arthur when we embarked on our unior year, and, such a year We had house parties and ever so many Jolly times trying to raise money for the unior Senior banquet Truly it was one of the happiest years in our school career During this year we welcomed two new members into the fold Cecelia Mayhew from Plymouth, New Hampshire, and Cleo Vigue from Keene, New Hampshire In these two girls we discovered acting ability and we did not let it remam an unused talent in either We staged pantomimes and later a one act play that proved so successful that the audience begged for more -. 33 f 7 X U . . . , . AQUILA PAGE35 lllllflllfllllllllllllllllllf now a candldate for the Maryknoll Order When h1s goal 15 reached, we ask that he often remember hxs school pals The blggest soclal event of the year was the Chr1stmas dance, the first formal ever glven by Semors It was a tremendous success and we meant lf to be so from the start, for on our achtevement would depend many future perm1ss1ons for formals By means of a raffle and a ser1es of part1es, we made enough money for the essentlals and the trtmmmgs When the dance was over, everyone agreed that we knew how to do thmgs he r1ght way That was the trme everyone wore wmgs and tried to be doubly good Confraternlty groups from Nashua, Htllsboro, Suncook, and the Sacred Heart Parlsh were our guests durlng the sprlng vacatton After a general meetlng ln church, we had a chlcken supper at the hall and then a dance It was wonderful' We ll never, never forget lt' The Nashualtes made qu1te a h1t wlth us, so much so that we can hardly watt to make a return v1s1t before school closes The usual thr1lls and horrors of prxze speaking that all classes go through IS almost over The essays are yet to come We are lookmg forward to the banquet and to somethmg else, too We ve heard rumors about the un1or plans for us and they sound superflne Senlor days weren t all fun We had plenty of studying to do tn chem1stry, htstory, soclology Enghsh, and business practice Our prmctpal, S1ster ulxana, was our home room teacher, and, under her supervlsxon, we learned to know her better and to appreclate all she does for Salnt ohn s Chemshxng as we shall each memory of our school days, we shall often look back wxth grateful hearts to the years that are no more To those who have atded us 1n mcreasmg our store of knowledge, nn bulldxng our characters, and 1n tralnlng us to be good cxttzens of thts world and of the world to come, we say a fervent thank you Remember us and pray for us, please, for we are not endmg but just begmnmg Leona Lafflazre 45 L . 7 ' s . . , . , . , . .
