Monsignor Buckley T the present time there is much heard and read about the results of offensive and defensive warfare One man sight or lack of it is greatly responsible for the victory or for the defeat A commander in chief is needed if order is to prevail in any undertaking Our director friend and adviser is our pastor Right Reverend Monsignor Buckley whose guidance has made our school life successful As students we are very much devoted to our pastor and are not insensible to the many splendid ideals which he con stantly presents to us We cannot talk to him for any length of time without learning something new He is always a firm supporter of the discipline of the school and has fre quently pomted out that departure from the rules and regula tions detracts from that high aim for God s honor and glory to which all Catholic high school students should aspire He taught us clearly that if the soul is right the whole life is right and that we should tram ourselves to right thinking and correct viewpoints in order to keep our souls right. It would be difficult to speak too highly of all that Mon- signor has done for us directly or indirectly during the many years that we have spent under his direction. Our gratitude to him is boundless. Our sincere wish is the hope that he may continue to inspire and direct for many years the future students of Saint 'lohn High School. N this era of sensationalism one day men rise to fame and the next finds them forgotten Not every man whom the world acclaims deserves the name of great or the title of per sonality Inexperxenced though we be we have learned to appreciate the essential qualities which designate the truly great man Father Donnelly possesses the required character istics of greatness if greatness means kindness to one s neigh bor Only God lcnows how much mankind needs priests like Father who talce His message of love to those who are afflicted His serenity enables him to accomplish much for these souls How often we have heard Father tell us about his Aunt lxate She may be a mythical creature but we firmly believe in her existence for life would be dull indeed if she ceased to be Out most fervent hope is a meeting with this noble lady. No introduction will be needed for we lcnow her quite well. Special, heartfelt thanlcs are due to Father Donnelly for his unfailing encouragement and constant approval in the editing of this number of Aquila. Thomas Buckley PAGE in AQUILA Father Donnelly
