How's Yearbook Coming? Ai Least the Cover's Blue! li you happened to wander up to the general vicinity of room 504, fit you don't know where that is, look it up in the Student Guidej you were probablggaelted with tapeballs, erasers, or verbal abuse. if you weren't, then no dy was up there. That was the place where the yearbook was put together. You know, yearbook is that thing that nobody thinks about till June unless it's somet ing like, ls it better than last year's'?, or Are Senigr portraits in color'? , and everybody complains about when they gett eirs. Sometimes there were a few people who considered joining the staff so that they could have a kick-back Sth period. Well, it used to be kick- back, easy but not anymore. You see, we got this new moderator, lk. Lamp iyou can call him Walt, everyone else doesj and he decided after having a good laugh at last year's book that he would do something about it. So he roused all ot the guys who worked on last year's boo ibut won't admit ity out ofthe mothballs way back in April of 1978 and started planning the '79 book. We really didn't get much done until August, but once we blew the gunk out, things started moving. ight ott the bat everything was a mess. The yearbook room was so cluttered that we wouldn't let any non-staffers in, using the excuse that the theme was a secret and we didn't want any leaks. There were dozens of layouts, hundreds of pictures, and one or two bad jokes from Walt. When we finally did get through all the trash tand fought oft a few Wet Cong hiding in the bottom drawerj we took on the band in a softball game. Sen ing them back to their tubes with a 17-2 defeat, we chal- lenged all comers, The only group with enough guts to even try was the newspaper staff. Somehow t e game just happened to be cancelled at the last moment over some tec nicalrty like Mr. Cross's cat died, and they all had to go to the funeral services. Leaving our promising baseball career behind us tor more menial tasks like yearbook, we managed, to our surprise, to meet every dead- iine. Now, that may not seem ike a bigedeai to you, but remember last Ear when the boo s didn't come in till nior farewell and Seniors didn't ve time to get autographs from their friends? Thanks to a few Senior staff members and some Juniors who Walt recruited so that next year's book would be better than this Yyeafs, there were a lot of new ideas and more copy than ever before. l you have read this lar, then you know what l mean, lf you haven't, then go back and start reading. Another big factor this year was that we had a new yearbook publisher, Taylor, reput- edly the best in the business. Because of this, we were able to do more artistic and graphic things for free, not to mention the fact that there are 16 more color pages this year than last year's. lf this sounds like a biased sales pitch for the yearbook, that's because it is. Who else would write a story on the Yearbook Stalt but someone on the Yearbook Staff. 1. Hard at work on the next deadline are, from left: Co-Editor Tom Tosti, Clubs and Organizations Editor Mike Dowell, Faculty Editor Mike Brazel- ton, Photographer Joe Chivira, Wait, Photography Editor Jim Colozzo, Photographer Mike Vetter, Sports'Editor Jim Melancon, and hiding behi Jim is Co-Editor Pat Staff members not pictured: Art Editor Phil Gonzales, Layout Editor huch Rivers, Artist Rick Wlla, Photggra- phers Mark Bruaski, and Mike Gaspan Carlton Baken Paul Bright ony Commodore, Jeff Chavez, Photggrapher Mark Gilling, Pat Lovett, Matt DeMott Rick Maxson, Brendan uiglefy. Special thanks to Frank Schu- pert for football pictures, Fr. Conterno or the title pagexpicture and blue- prints, Steve Pascale for ilyigq the plane, Bob Boo- Hernandez for the calendars and Mom a Dad for without them none of this would have been possible. 72 Yearbook Staff fri . . gs., Wait- ?
