HIS HOLINESS, POPE PIUS XII The aim of Christian Education is . . . to co-operate with the Divine Grace in forming Christ in those regenerated in Baptism. Addressing pupils and teachers in a recent address, His Holiness, Pope Pius XII, reminds the youth in this present era of the need of continued education, for an ignorant people is defenseless and at the mercy of skilled agitators or unscrupulous politicians. The right to vote, which gives everyone an equal voice in public life, de- mands of the persons who exercise it at least an elementary notionlof political principles and their application within the national and international sphere of poIitics. 3

IN RGD C 10 FOREWORD ST. JEAN'S LEGACY: A CHRISTIAN EDUCATlON,'was chosen as the theme of the 1953 Profile. For twenty-six years this high school has passed on to its students an education based on Christian principles and flavored with the ideals of the Catholic Religion, and realization of the importance of each individual. This yearbook gives you St. Jean High School of 1952-1953. It is the story of the work, the pleasures and the life of the students here. ln its pages we have enshrined cherished memories of our yesterdays in Church, school and social gatherings. But this book is not iust like any other carefully planned record of a year's progress and work, for when the final page of the Profile has been closed, an epoch will also be closed. Yes, after twenty-six memorable years, St. Jean High School is going to step aside for progress, for the completed dream, Greater Muskegon Catholic Central High School. Yet St. Jean High School will live in the hearts of the men and women it equipped and sent into the world. For an institution which played such an imporant role in the shaping of so many lives can hardly be completely forgotten. Joseph Poulin, whose zeal for Cath- olic education transformed an idea into a high school with a glorious history. Under the supervision of the Sisters of Mercy, the students have won honors and acclaim in scholastic fields, athletic achievement, and Christian social life. Through the energetic endeavor of the Very Rev. William E. Fraser, the school has progressed and will continue to form the basis of the future classes for Catholic Central. Here, within the shadows of this building, bodies were strength- ened, minds were formed and souls were developed in accordance to Christian teachings. 4
