Editor-in-Chief Wade Penn managed to get out seven issues in '75-76, despite broken promises and the other slings and arrows a student editor is heir to. His was a controversial, even crusading, paper - remember Is Bishwhip Getting Its Money's Worth? But it was also a whimsical one, with Yaps and parodies on Tower and K.G. Wilkins' soliloquies. At year's end, Dean Koerth was elected editor for '76-77. 'Tower' Tower - a dittoed, semi- underground news-sheet marked by spontaneity, frivolity, and general irreverence - sprang forth full-blown from the head of one Dave Bonus to meet a real need: the respectable old Spec wasn't coming out very often! Tower may have lacked finesse, but not readers. Tom Evans and crew at least kept the place laughing for a while. 1' if , af , fi Crack Squad Breaking tradition, the Squad let new-boys try out - and two qualified. There were seven new members in all. Besides doing its customary drills on campus, the Squad competed in the Pershing Rifles meet at U. of M. Whether it lost its 94-year-old undefeated record is debatable: the Squad was named boys' champ, but a girls outfit from Chicago took the meet title. Wooden Soldiers At Thanksgiving chapel, Captain Allison Dyer announced seven new members, making the '76 team almost twice as large as last year's. The Soldiers' origins are obscure: apparently the idea came from a Babes in Toyland parody sometime in the early 1900's.
