The Minor L Most Bishwhips opted for either major sports or less- strenuous intramurals - mandatory fun. A few, however, participated in activities that included some off-campus competition. Novice Caroline Glass performed in all four gymnastics events - beam, floor, uneven bars, vaulting - and took firsts in each. Mary Eiser made firsts in beam and bars at the intermediate level. Four Bishwhips swam on the Faribault Y team, and three made it to state -- Sue Glass, Gabe Backlund, and Steve Olson, Sue got first in butterfly. Kathy Keller took several firsts in regional meets. l Steve Olson was named MVP. Club soccer, in its first year, involved over 50 students but had 12 regulars: Scott Anderson, Woody Merritt, Marc Wolner, Paul eagues Michaelson, Steve Nordstrom, Bill Michie, Art Quiggle, Joel Gould, Bob Eaton, Joe Helkamp, Bob Knutson, and Dan Mackay. Mr. Hancock, former All-England player, ran the program. The loss to Breck was partially redeemed by victory over the faculty. Cheerleaders Boy, are we enthusiastic runs the chant, but Bishwhip fans are sometimes reticent at games. Still the cheerleaders tried their darndest to inspire vocal participation. Some of the exotic new routines never did catch on, but Two Bits kept its old magic. Varsity cheerleaders got Shattuck letters. Mrs. Sumner was their advisor.
