Shad Tennis COACHES - James Catterall and Rex Bates The Shattuck tennis team managed a 6-1 record in free-lance season competition - about the same as last year's -- but was aced in regional play. First Singles John Lane made a perfect 7-0 and took the district singles title. First Doubles Wade Penn and Tim Falck were likewise undefeated in season play, despite an unorthodox style. The team picked neither a captain nor an MVP. Dan Guerard, No. 1 man and winner of the Golf Trophy, took seventh in the district, a bad final round in the regionals, however, cut him out of the state tourney. Two undefeated teams - Le Sueur and St. Paul Academy - accounted for three of the Shads' losses, others were close - lost because of youth, according to Coach King. Still there was improvement. And since all of the team's lettermen were underformers, '77 prospects look fairly bright.
