With small teams the Shads coped very respectably - e.g., they totally outclassed the competition in the conference meet. Bob Knutson won the Pilon Award for contributing most. Tom Evans got the Buchanan for dedication. Dean Koerth and Tyrone Artis took 1st and 2nd in the decathlon. :u,.,L.g514.etl., as is re-' ' 13 P- 14.-,,gq2i,g+f 3 I Mgr NA Daatmlx ' T' as - ,' 'M' f, 5773 7 eaar 4- 7 1 my 59 ' V A , ' V V A, H .. SMH Basketball COACHES - james Catterall and Bobbi Sumner. CAPTAINS - Allison Dyer and Corrine Wanstall. St. Mary's basketball outshone all of the boys' winter teams by bringing home the Centennial championship. With an 8-1 conference record Q12-4 overallj, the Saints could boast their best season ever since Coach Bobbi Sumner organized the team in 1971. Several of the victories were overwhelming - like 73-13 over Randolph. Not surprisingly, three of the Saints made All-Conference - Kathy Boentje, Allison Dyer, and Corrine Wanstall. Kathy was top scorer. She and Katie Haralson are to be captains of next year's team. Corrine was named Most-Valuable Player. The I-V team was inexperienced, so theirs was a building year - but they did defeat the Deaf School twice.
