PRIDE and SELF DEVELOPMENT would be the two key words that would charac - terize the 1976 fighting Saints football squad. It took a great deal of pride to go through the weeks of hard drills, first in hot, humid weather, then in freezing tem- peratures, in order to develop into a win- ning football team. This year's squad was willing to pay that price, as a result they developed themselves into a winning foot- ball team, with a winning attitude. Award winners on this year's team include: Tri- Captains: Matt Gosche, Dan Sturm, and Greg Windschill: most valuable linemen: Brad Klebel, Blaine Goor, Most Valuable back: Greg Windschill, Most Improved player: Charles Stark, All Conference: Terry Schiller, Greg Windschill, Blaine Goor, and Brad Klebel. Only one to get by for a touchdown, but Dave Zumwalt can't quite make it, and gets nailed.

VOLLEYBALL Girls Play With Determination The Volleyball team started out with lots of enthusiasm, hope and winning power with four returning letter winners. All were eager to go out and win for St. James. Their record 6-9 doesn't show the desire and determination displayed by the Saintlys, who beat Minnesota Lake in the first round of the district tourney. Then lost to Mapelton 0-2 in the semi-finals. The team's co-captains were Mary Plum- hoff and Julie Newberg, and the coaches were Sharon Euerle and Pat Branstad. Voted most valuable player was Julie Curry, while Bernie Reinke served the most points during the season. There were 9 letterwinners this year with 5 re- turning next year.
