TRACK Trackmen Reach New Heights Following a slow start the track team managed a fairly successful year. The highlight of the Saint track season was winning the St. James Olympia over six opponents, with Fairmont providing the toughest competition. Vance and Mike Watkins, co-captains for the 1972 season, proved to be the most valuable members. Both boys pro- duced a steady flow at team points through- out the season. Finishing 5th as a team in conference action, the mile relay quartet of Wayne Monsen, Mark Runge, Vance Watkins, and Mike Watkins tied the previous con- ference record and took first place. They also won the district mile relay and ad- vanced to the region. Vance Watkins set a new record in the discus while Kent Sizer broke his former record in the 2 mile. The fact that only 3 seniors, Barry Warner, Vance Watkins and Mike Watkins were on the 1972 team brightened the possibility of a strong team next year. Mike Watkins strains every muscle for that last extra inch in the long jump. TRACK: Row 1: M. Watkins, V. Watkins. Row 2: K. Welchlin, B. Wright, D. Lorenz, T. Watkins, B. Warner, C. Osland, P.
