Mr. Ball: We of the Saintonian are taking this opportunity to speak for the faculty and students of our school system. We are proud to have had you in our school system as a teacher and co-worker for twenty-seven of your forty-one years in education. The Saintonian and the Saints Reporter are greatful for your work in the con- cessions stand. We will all miss your now-famous quote The only thing free is advice! And all of us in school will miss: your English class, your work with declam, your Homecoming plans, your coffee in the lounge and office, your help in planning welcome and farewell addresses, your master key when we forgot our own, your invitations to Rotary Club, your great work in athletics, your interest in drama, your councilling to us, our parents (grandparents too?), For the many little things you’ve done, usually unrecognized, that make a fine school better, we can simply say THANK YOU, and dedicate this edition of the Saintonian to you. The best of luck in the future. 6 FALL Queen Su and King Jeff Kevin Chambers makes sure he gets the right change as he enters the dance. Jeff Nessler, Saint quarterback, has good protection as he sets up to pass. The new Auto Mechanics Club won with their first entry in the Homecoming parade. HOMECOMING Happiness is Homecoming ’71 Homecoming activities started Monday with the powderpuff football game. A vic- tory by the senior girls over the junior girls stimulated spirit and pep for this year's homecoming. The rest of the week was spent building floats. Everyone will remember stuffing tissues. Thursday night the pep fest spirit was really high. The football players promised the students they would do their best to Tuc a Buck Away . The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Queen Sue Jessop and King Jeff Nessler. Friday, school was dis- missed early for the parade. Taking first place was the Auto Mechanics float. Sec- ond place went to the Sophomore Class. At the game, the stands were loaded with Saints supporters. The score at halftime was 6-0 with the Jimmies in the lead. Halftime performance by the band was again outstanding. Blue Earth went on to gain a 14-12 victory but we played a tough game. Dance music was furnished by the Laurel Ambush and all will remember Homecoming 71. Coaches, referees and team captains are caught while discussing a play in the Powderpuff game. There was as much discussing as playing!! Left: Sue Rettki, Deb Basmoen, Sue Chapman, and Paula Gosche, along with the other Cheerleaders, added spirit to the Homecoming activities. 9 HOMECOMING COURT: Pages: P. Kutches, J. Plumoff. FOOTBALL Effort Creates Team Success With a record of seven wins and two losses, the Saints had a bang-up year. The losses to Blue Earth and Fairmont left the James Gang in second place in the South Central Conference. Tri-captains Jeff Nessler, Charlie Osland and Keith Bloomquist were suc- cessful in leading the team. Because of their achievements during their senior year, Dave Johnson, Jeff Nessler and Keith Bloomquist were chosen for the All- Conference team. Our congratulations to Coach Kutches for a job well done and our best wishes to him for another winning season in 1972. 13 CROSS-COUNTRY Harriers Run Way to State. The 1971 Saints cross country team finished an exciting year by placing second in the region and going on to the state cross country meet. The team was under the direction of Mr. Norb Renner, who was named Region II cross country coach of the year. Juniors, sophomores, and one freshman made up the team with Mark Runge and Kent Sizer as the top runners of the season. Congratulations to you and your team, Mr. Renner. STATISTICS 1. Winner in 8 of 10 dual meets. 2. Third in 15-team Turkey Trot . 3. Second in conference meet. 4. First in District meet. 5. Second in Regional meet. 6. Qualified for State meet. 7. FALL PLAY As the cast looks on, Paul Windschill presents Mr. Plumhoff with a token of their appreciation. “I Remember Mama' The Senior class proudly presented a dramatic comedy in two acts, I Remem- ber Mama . Set in San Francisco in the early 1900's, the story involved a family of Norwegian immigrants and their prob- lems with money, illness, and meddling Uncle Chris. Daughter Dagmar and cousin Arne both have operations, and Aunts Sigrid and Jenny complain and gossip about that, along with everything else. Aunt Trina wants a dowry so she can marry the undertaker, but Uncle Chris refuses. Mr. Hyde, the boarder, turns out to be a crook despite his gentlemanly ways. Katrin graduates and grows up, being allowed to drink coffee, but doesn't meet with success as a writer until telling the story of Mama's visit to the hospital. Uncle Chris dies leaving no will, having used his money in helping many lame people walk, including Arne; this changes the aunt's attitude to one of ad- miration instead of dislike. In the end, Mama, who has held the family together, reveals that their secu- rity, a bank account, is nonexistent, but everything works out for the best. Much of the credit went to Mr. Plumhoff for patiently (?) directing the play and also to the fine stage crew. It was hard work but LOTS of fun! Left: I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry I told, yells Christine as Mama and Papa observe their stubborn daughter. Below: Katrin comforts the dying Uncle Chris by promising to remember him. The prediction came true, for no one was able to match the excellent team balance of the fighting branch of the James Gang. The result was a Conference cham- pionship, two Invitational championships, the Conference round-robin, the District, Region, and State Tournaments! Seven wrestlers qualified for the State Meet: Nathan Winkelman at 98 pounds, Jake Hodgkinson-105, Jim Augustin-112, Jeff Nelson-119, Kevin Kuehl-132, Tom Knickrehm-155, and Dave Johnson at 167. No team really came close, as the Saints swept to the State Championship. An example of the team balance was shown by the fact that the State was won before the finals had even started. Congratulations to the coaches and wrestlers for providing us with the most memorable and exciting season ever. You are truly NUMBER ONE, no holds barred! A SQUAD WRESTLING: Kneeling; N. Winkelman, J. Hodgkinson, J. Augustin, J.Nelson, E. Hill, K. Kuehl. Standing; Coaches Adams and Mohr, D. Frisch, R. Lang, T. Knickrehm, D. Johnson, J. Blanchfield, C.Osland, Supt. Jake Hodgkinson (above), Jim Augustin (above right), and Kevin Kuehl (right) reached the State finals. The three compiled a total of 88 wins and only 5 losses during the season. Jim, in his ENTIRE wrestling career has lost only thir- teen matches, dating several years back. Since the State tourney Jim and Jake have wrestled their way to Europe as part of a Minnesota team under the Cultural Exchange Program. VANTAGE TME 18 Right: Evidence on the Williams Arena scoreboard clearly indicates a St. James victory by ten points. Below Left: Our faithful cheerleaders display anxiety during one of Jake's bouts. Granheim, M.Veglahn, K. Huettl, B. Windschill, S.Shellum, M. Range, B. Olson, R.Grundman, B. Ewert. The victorious wrestlers came home with THE trophy amid elated and happy fans. But all was not yet over, for it was now the shooting branch of the James Gang that took over. The fever pitch created by the wrestlers was now carried over to basket- ball, which was having its own success. Coach Veglahn's crew was also undefeated, and ranked NUMBER ONE in the state. Was there a possibility of an unprecidented second trip to Williams Arena in the offing? IN BASKETBALL TOO We Won the Whole Thing Eager anticipation gripped the school and town once more, building to a pitch hard to describe as Nessler and com- pany continued winning through District and Regional play. Then, there it was!! The Saints were in the State meet once more. Still ranked number one, proof was neces- sary for many skeptics. But prove it they did by the fast break, a very tight defense, and hot outside shooting by Jim Chalin. And who will ever forget that last second shot by Jeff to win the Class A Championship??? Again the James Gang left Williams Arena with all the loot-the Class A Trophy and the Over-all trophy as well. Once more the gym was filled with throngs of dazed, but deleriously happy fans, not yet completely recovered from the wrestling success. To coaches and team members — congratulations for the most spectacular season in history. Right: This was the shot heard (and seen) around the state. Jeff Nessler's last second ef- fort from near the ten second line will have people talking for years to come. The ball did go in, and the Saints won by two points. What a way to end a state championship game!!! Melrose people said The James Gang killed us with one shot! Bottom 3 pictures: Using the same format through the whole season the Jimmies used the fast break for quick baskets, outstanding defense that blocked or did not allow shots to be taken, and exceptional passing and shooting. They compiled a record of twenty-nine wins without a loss, more than any other high school team in history. Several times during the year games were decided by well disciplined and determined effort, es- pecially when the competition was bigger and taller. Top: Mike, Mark, Jim, and Jeff bring the loot to the gym while Mr. Christianson gets the details of the trip home from Mr. Strommen and coach Veglahn. Mike, Jim, and Jeff made the all-tournament team. Above: The trophies on display in a store window attracted much attention as seen in the reflection from the window. Townspeople entered into the celebration by making many signs prominently dis- played along the route to the school expressing many ideas of oeing number one in both wrestling and basketball. Bottom Left: Happiness is winning the WHOLE THING as most aptly expressed by Stephanie Glenn. 23 SAINTETTES MAT MAIDS Spirit Goes up With New Action MAT MAIDS: Row 1: J.Miller, E.Malmgren, D. Eat it up Bonnie Lantz. Sloppy, but humerous, the pie eating contest was truly entertaining. Fun of Spirit Week Brings Needed Break After a semester of work, a week of festive events was planned by the Student Council to provide a welcome break between quarters. The halls were decorated by the classes, at- tempts were made at snow sculpturing, and the week was culminated by a pep fest coming at a time when state tournaments were at hand. There were cheer- ing contests, pie eating contests and was concluded with an ugly girl competition which netted the Council some cash. Mr. (Miss?) Appleton collected the most cash, therefore was the ugliest girl. Which one is your queen-Mr. Rabe, Bill Riesenberg, Warren Romsdahl, or Bill Brown? The seniors constructed a snow sculpture that showed Saints were Number One. SPRING VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM: Row 1: R. Schmid, Manager, G. Zender, J. Ness, C. Mueller, ]. Chalin, J. Nessler, S. This time headed by familiar names such as Nessler, Dalen, Ness, and Chalin, they struck Mankato and took the district baseball title, 5-4 in 13 innings. Reports come in that due to inclement weather they had been held up when several early games were cancelled. It was a slow start with a fair 4-3 con- ference record, and 10-4 over all. But with Jay Ness and Steve Shellum pitching for Earned Run Average of 2. 00 and 0. 86 respectively, and Jerry Dalen batting . 480 things started falling into place. As in Basketball Jeff Nessler and Jim Chalin provided excellent leadership as Co-captains. When last seen they were headed for Regional play. Consult the next edition of the Saintonian for the results! Coach Johnson seems to be plotting some strategy in attempting to win one of several close ball games in which the Saints were involved this spring. 26 It looks as though a close play is coming up as Steve Olson waits for the throw to his first base position. Again Steve Olson figures in the play. This time he gets all the wood on the ball. B-SQUAD BASEBALL: Row 1: N. Winkelman, B. Lunz, K. Besel, B. Ewert, D. Runge, M. Robbins, S. Johnson. Row 2: M. The highlight of the Saint track season was winning the St. James Olympia over six opponents, with Fairmont providing the toughest competition. Vance and Mike Watkins, co-captains for the 1972 season, proved to be the most valuable members. Both boys pro- duced a steady flow at team points through- out the season. Finishing 5th as a team in conference action, the mile relay quartet of Wayne Monsen, Mark Runge, Vance Watkins, and Mike Watkins tied the previous con- ference record and took first place. They also won the district mile relay and ad- vanced to the region. Vance Watkins set a new record in the discus while Kent Sizer broke his former record in the 2 mile. The fact that only 3 seniors, Barry Warner, Vance Watkins and Mike Watkins were on the 1972 team brightened the possibility of a strong team next year. Mike Watkins strains every muscle for that last extra inch in the long jump. TRACK: Row 1: M. Watkins, V. Watkins. Row 2: K. Welchlin, B. Wright, D. Lorenz, T. Watkins, B. Warner, C. Osland, P. The Tennis Squad managed a doubles victory in the District with Norm Petersen and Bruce MacMaster. The golfers, with Jerry Dalen showing the way with a spectacular 5 under par 63, captured the District crown, a golf first in St. James history. f Above: Brian Dempsey uses his muscle trying for an ace . Then, win- ners of the sub-district went to the dis- trict contest in Mankato. Cyndy Petersen was the only winner on the district level and therefore was able to participate in the regional contest at Worthington. Much credit must go to the coaches for their time and effort. The story centered around Chantal Stacy's husband seeking and marriage. After some sly maneuvers, she became united in Holy Wedlock with professional photographer Eugene Wright. Chantal soon became jealous of the models employed by her husband and con- sulted her mother for advice. Using her mother's idea of training a husband with a dog obedience manual, Chantal turned her unsuspecting husband into the perfect mate. Unfortunately, Eugene learned of her methods, which resulted in an unpleasant argument and near divorce. In order to save her marriage Chantal devised a scheme to make her husband jealous, but the crafty Eugene turned her scheme around and completely baffled her. The play ended on a tender note as they made up and were happy once again. STAGE CREW: Row 1: K. Bergquist, K. Schmid, J. Reynolds, K. Jandahl, C. Rosik. Row 2: K. Bloom- quist, M. Schmidt, K. The theme Colour My World was accented by an enormous multi-colored world as the main centerpiece. The Jrs. spent a hectic week completing it on time. Their time and efforts were well spent as the result was one of the most beautiful we've had. Following a delicious banquet, Mark Vanderbilt talked on the coloring of the world in which he compared each of us to a crayon. Like a crayon we draw a picture and leave a trace of where we were as life goes on. Kris Bloomquist and Joel Blanchfield sang the Impossible Dream with Sue Chapman singing Colour My World . Bruce MacMaster wound up the program with his talk on The Coloured World. A huge globe, constructed of blue foil and white tissues, was the centerpiece of Colour My World Enjoying the Grand March is Vicki Swenson, Jeff Nessler, Paula Gosche and Jeff Knickrehm. 36 Good food and good entertainment made the prom banquet a success. 37 Dancing to the groovy music of the Talisman are Bill Fossum and his date, Kathy Behrens, PROM WAITERS WAITRESSES Row Is M. The annual Harvest Holiday Concert was held in November. The Choir was featured on KNUJ-Radio, broadcast from the First National Bank Christmas Party. The Choir also participated in the Sr. High Music Department's Christmas Concert. To raise money for the Choir trip in April birthday calenders were sold and an operetta, The Lowland Sea was pre- sented. At 4:00 A. M. on Thursday April 21, the choir left on their journey to Winnipeg, Canada, giving concerts at Sauk Rapids and Mahnomen High Schools in Minnesota on the way. Arriving at the St. Regis Hotel in Winnipeg at 9:00 P. M. was a very tired and hungry group. The following day, concerts were presented at Dakota Collegiate Institute and at Lions Manor Retirement Home. The Senior Madrigal presented a special concert to the crippled children at Shriner's Hospital in Winnipeg. Members of the choir were permitted to visit with the children after the concert. All agreed that it was a very rewarding experience. Leaving Winnipeg on Satur- day morning the choir arrived in St. James at 10:00 P. M. Chaperones for the trip were Mrs. Harold Peterson, Mrs. Bud Behrens, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Windschill, and Mr. Jokumson. CHOIR COUNCIL: D. Miest, J. Anderson, N. Petersen. Row 2: S. Osland, B. They entertained football fans dur- ing pre-games and half time shows with their much practiced maneuvers and pep music. Then they settled down to concert music and gave a Fine Harvest Holiday, Pops Concert and Christmas Concert combined with the Choir. As usual the Band performed at all the home basketball games. When tournaments rolled around, the James Gang rode again. They took buses to all tournaments, where they displayed not only great musi- cal talent but also fantastic school spirit. They turned out to be pretty good card players to boot. This is where our popular Eat 'em up theme song was born. The pep music played at the tournament made already high spirits soar. After getting home, the band members buckled down to win 23 and 15 star ratings at District and region contests. They then prepared an enjoyable spring concert. The perfection of a marching band is not accomplished without a great deal of practice. Just ask any member of our fine group. Even when others are enjoying vacation the band continues to work on their intricate formations. STAGE BAND: Row 1: P. Nelson, S. Hartke, R. Sternberg, P. Barker, P. Parsons, B. Holland, J. All three students were active in Co-curricular affairs. Peter had the lead in the school Operetta Lowland Sea. FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS Our Friends Forever The final answer came from the YFU headquarters. It came on my birthday in April. I departed from Stockholm in the middle of August, full of unsure visions of how your society worked, etc. Now many of the visions have changed, some in positive others in negative directions. This year has been a really nice year for me and I want to thank you all for it. If you ever come to our home, it will be as open to-you as St. James and USA has been to me. Peter Schantz Hollandargatan 264 11359 Stockholm, Sweden I stood there by the microphone while strange, white, wondering faces watched us. I wish I’d vanish right that moment. It's just the start of everything, Vicki. The United States is different, es- pecially in their ways (attitudes to girls, boys, elders, friendship, love) and less warm. School work and quizzes or tests are a lot lighter here. Now that I've stayed in this neat town for quite a time, I say, So, this is it. What ever it may be, I will always treas- ure it. You helped make it. I’ll keep it. I like you all... Vicki A. Camba, Philippines I want to thank you when you wanted to have me like one of the students. It was nice to be a Candy Striper because then I had a chance to talk Swedish to the old people. I couldn't understand football so much in the beginning, but now I know more, because now I play flag-football in Phy- Ed. The players in wrestling also in bas- ketball were fantastically good. Maybe we exchange students gave the guys some kind of spinach in their muscles (I'm kidding). If you travel to Finland you are al- ways welcome to my home. Rakastan teila Jag alskar er... I love you. SAINTONIAN Capturing Memories is Our Goal Every Tuesday night the Saintonian staff members scurried into Room 210 to put down on paper the memories and activities of the students of St. James High. Under the able leadership of Renelle Peterson, Editor, the staff hoped to preserve the cherished moments of the year. Literary Editor, Cyndy Petersen, guided her staff into writing descriptive stories, captioning pictures, and proofreading. The Layout Editor was Becky Hake. Armed with rulers, pencils, and plenty of erasers, she helped her staff design the pages. Laura Augst and Debbie Kintzi both served well as Business Editors. They kept their staff busy working in the concession stand and collecting subscriptions. The Typing staff was headed by Liz Kuehl. Without them the Saintonian would have been written in longhand! Mary Anderson did an excellent job as Photo Head. Mr. Wetzel served as our advisor, who remained calm even though many unfinished pages stocked his shelves at deadline time. Many times the staff felt like turning in their pens and giving up, but the Saintonian turned out better than ever. LITERARY: Row 1: K. Bergquist, G. Liemeier. Row 2: M. Bottem, J. Brown, B. SAINTS REPORTER To Inform Is Our Purpose The Saints Reporter kept us informed of all the news and events happening at St. James High School. The staff usually published one edi- tion of the paper a month, but due to fi- nancial problems the Saints Reporter was published only in January through May. Students were anxious to snatch the papers hot off the press and read of news, sports, editorials, opinions, gossip, and stories. Editor of this paper was Su Jessop, and the advisor was Miss Bremer. Cleaning up the football field after games was one responsibility of the staff. This job made it necessary for the staff to rise early Saturday mornings to carry out their project. They also worked in the concession stand to raise money for print- ing costs. We all agree the paper is a very nec- essary part of our school life. FHA Members of FHA Prepare for the Future FHA sewed up another big year with their interest- ing activities. First was the district meeting at Garden City. Paula Gosche was the voting delegate and Kay Bergquist was district candidate. In November, the FHA'ers sponsored a swimming party, to which they invited their sister chapter, the Truman FHA'ers. In December, the girls spent long hours preparing attractive ditty bags for soldiers in Viet Nam. Since money is needed to run an active organization, they sold cookbooks and sponsored a bake sale. Both projects were successful. The FHA girls were guests of honor at a homemade ice cream party in Truman. The evening was fun and educational for everyone. FHA sponsored a dance in February, with the Ride providing the music. The year came to a close with the annual Mother- Daughter Tea, which was held in May. New officers were installed at the candle ceremony. FHA OFFICERS: Row 1: B. Johnson (Treas), G. Hurley (V. Pres), D. Kintzi (Sec) L. Kuehl (Pres) Row 2: Miss Herman (Advisor), B. The FFA chapter had a great year under their advisors, Mr. Busch, Mr. Botten, and Mr. Krech. At the annual banquet and crop show, Ron Noren was named Grand Champion Crop Showman and Virgil Goltz was Reserve Champ. Natalie Winkelman be- came our Chapter Sweetheart. Keith Brekken was named Chapter Star Farmer. This year seven members earned the State Farmer Degree. They were: Ron Askeland, Bill Brown, Keith Jorgenson, Doug Ahrenstorff, Bruce Hultgren, Steve Johnson and Mike Watkins. Bill Brown was named District Star Farmer. Seven district Proficiency Awards were won. Five of these were on the regional level. They were: Doug Ahrenstorff-Placement in Processing, Dave Frisch-Placement in Production, Ron Danhoff-Placement in Sales and Service, Ron Askeland-Electricity, and Bob Wright-Ornamental Horticulture. Tom Johnson-Fish and Wildlife and Ron Askeland-Crops won on the district level. FFA OFFICERS: W. Monsen (Sentinel), D. Ahrenstorff (Reporter), R. Sternberg (Treas. ), B. Brown (Sec. ), K. Jorgenson (V. Pres.), R. Askeland (Pres.). 64 Each year industrious Future Farmers Show their deep interest in farming by promoting Spirit during their F.F.A. week. Smiling proudly are crop show winners Virgil Goltz and Ron Noren. The Ag. Shop enables boys to learn the use of machin- ery and show their skills. Dave Schlomann and Layne Johnson are shown using a grindstone for their metal- work project. Natalie Winkelman is the 1972 FFA Sweetheart. A Sweetheart is a representative of the chapter who attends the FFA functions. She acts as a link between the FHA Chapter and the FFA Chapter. She also adds a female smile and grace to an otherwise all male atmosphere. 65 Choosing the Chapter Sweetheart is an event that all FFA boys look forward to with very great interest! Contestants this year were Kaylene Lindquist, Jill Brown, Natalie Winkelman, and Debbie Sodeman. Natalie was chosen. Boys in agruculture know that machinery must be in tip-top shape to do the best job. Here the combine gets a Check-up before the harvest. 66 Soil judging isn't all fun and games, although at this time Brad Sturm, Bill Brown, and Ron Askeland seem to be enjoying their work. CANDY STRIPERS Working With a Purpose A Candystriper is a girl who devotes her time and energy to the sick and elder- ly at hospitals and nursing homes. Candy- stripers run errands, bring food trays, refill water pitchers, read, and talk to patients. There are fifty-four members in Candystripers who work at the Watonwan Memorial Hospital and Pleasant View Nursing Home. In September, after twenty hours of work, the girls receive their caps. Their patience, understanding, and helpful ways leave many smiling faces I However, without the devoted help of our advisor, Mrs. Egge and our chapter mothers, Mrs. Swenson, Mrs. Bloomquist, and Mrs. Haugen, none of this would have been possible. This year the girls participated in basketball, volleyball, swimming, bowl- ing and tennis. Each of these sports lasted five weeks. G.A.A. sponsored two fund raising projects which were selling sock it to 'em buttons and a variety show. The cheerleaders were an essential part of our athletic program. They prac- ticed every week, year round to find new ideas to promote school spirit. Their main job was leading cheers at all the games and taking charge of all the pep fests. During Homecoming they sold Home- coming buttons and programs. The cheerleaders hosted a clinic in which over five hundred girls from all over the state attended. There they learned new cheers and techniques in which to lead pep fests. The girls had a very memorable year with our teams doing fantastically well! Adults supported the Lettermen's Coat Check during the year knowing the money would go for a good cause. LETTERMEN The Best Athletes Around The Lettermen's Club consists of 70 members. It has two main money raising projects. One project is the coat check at winter sports events. The other project is raising money for their scholarships by selling candy. Two scholarships of 100 dollars each are awarded to two sen- ior lettermen. The Lettermen have paid for various projects. They paid for the new baseball backstop, contributed to the new lavatory at the football field, and paid for weights in the weight training room. The senior Lettermen look forward to a one-day trip at the end of the year. The trip is usually made to a sporting event in the Twin Cities. LETTERMEN OFFICERS: J. Augustin (Pres.), J. Nessler (V. SOPHOMORES Our First Year Can’t Be Beat Brad Sturm PRESIDENT We’re finally in the Senior High and we've got a lot of unforgettable memories of the past school years, and a lot of ideas for our years to come. We're ready to start doing things for the Senior High and for ourselves. Full of anticipation, we found ourselves asking... Are the teachers nice?.. Have the juniors and seniors changed?.. Will everything be different now?. Well, now that we've been here awhile, we've found a few answers to our questions, but not to all of them. There are no two sophomores who agree on all points. Some say they like it here, some don't, but everyone agrees on two things: We're very proud of our class and of our school. As Juniors, we have taken a lot of pride in our class and its accomplishments. The Junior class worked very hard for long, tedious hours on the float. The slogan was Beat the Bucs, Or Bust. Our efforts were well worth it when the float was awarded the distinction of Most Unique. One responsibility of the Junior Class was to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom, held April 28. We sold the popu- lar Here Comes the James Gang Buttons. The buttons were red and black and had a St. James Saint on them. As sopho- mores, we sold Sylvania Thank-You Pak Light Bulbs. This bulb-selling project continued into our Junior year. If a Man Answers was the three-act comedy presented by the Junior Class in April. We received our class rings in March. These rings helped to bond our class together as one, and made us realize how far we had come together. We Juniors are looking forward to our Senior year with anticipation. We hope to achieve our new goals with success. Many of us can sympathize having gone through these jokes too. A YEAR 365 DAYS ONE SEVENTIETH OF A LIFETIME A SERIES OF MEMORIES Some that we'd like to remember Some we’d like to forget; Insignificant to eternity But a milestone to the individual. It was a year of graduation Of making choices Of new faces from foreign lands Of state victories Of travel and song Of sad goodbyes. And it was a year of our country- With brotherhood and love, Bloodshed and hatred; With the fear of the unknown, And the joy of new knowledge; The constant cry for peace Echoed through the night Onto another day; All part of life- We Strove to be aware. The sophomore summer led to the senior fall. The crowds moved in obedience to the clocks; First period, second, third-- And again, One hundred and eighty times. Our friendships grew through the years As did our independence. It was a great year and it was ours. We are all united by the memories we share. MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS. 109 SOPHOMORE CLASS Altenburg, Glen 82 Andersen, Kenneth 82 Anderson, Betty Jo 82 Anderson, Cheryl 82,86 Anderson, Nancy 82, Anderson, Thomas 31,47, 82 Aspelund, Dean 82
