Nelson, ROW 3: L. Sternberg, L. Quindel, L. Olson, R. Schultz, M. Munsterman, B. Carstensen, Coach N. Renner. When the call went out for Coach Renner's cross country team this year, nineteen candidates responded. Charles Stradtman was chosen captain and was also the number-one runner. St. James had cross country meets with Mankota, Wells, St. Louis Park, and Minneapolis Southwest ... At the Regional, Captain Charles Stradtman was the only one who qualified for the State meet . . . For the first time, St. James failed to win a meet this year and also, for the first time, failed to place in the state as a team. Next year, the Saints hope to regain their winning ways . . . Jerry Knaak was chosen to lead the team as captain for next year. Hustle, now! 29

We followed our cheerleaders as they cheered VARSITY SQUAD CHEERLEADERS: K. Madsen, J. Running, C. Engelking, L. Mickelson, J. Engdahl. Captain Carol Engelking and her A team cheerleaders attended a cheerleading clinic this year and produced new yells and jumps for the students. The new Pep Club and cheerleaders also sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Dance in the grade gym that was decorated cle- verly in Dog-patch style. In the entertainment field we rank at the top. JUNIOR PLAY CAST. ROW Is C. Jensen, Y. Sieg, C. Burckhardt, J. Holm. ROW 2: B. Swanson, G. Norcn, B. Kohn, J. Oglesbee, L. Daniels. At ‘8 o'clock on the night of November 9,1956, a large crowd gathered to watch the annual Junior Class Play... Luther Daniels and Judy Oglesbee surely had trouble perfecting those love scenes while everyone gathered a- around to offer pointers on the subject . . . Jim Holm stole the show several times when he aimed some of his catty remarks at his handsome and hen-peck- ed father, Curtis Burckhardt . . . The spunky little sister, was played by Carol Jensen. Carol and Jim almost drove their poor mother, Yvonne Sieg, crazy with their mischief . . . Bev. Kohn, did a terrific job portraying the neighborhood gossip . . . Glenys Noren and Bob Swanson played Luther's mother and brother, who both tried to help Cupid along . . . The cast was under the direction of Miss Rodness and Student Director, Kathy Hackett . . . These plus many others working behind the scenes helped make “The Family Upstairs a very successful class play.
