Seems like only yesterday we joined the ranks of Junior High . . . How important we felt to be able to go to a different room for class each hour . . . When Christmas time approached, we carried out the traditional chalking of murals in Mr. Williams’ room . . . Who will ever forget the numerous roller skating parties and the terrific job of trying to find a partner who wasn't three times as short as you. Our freshman year brought in the kids from the country. . .That year also brought algebra which in turn brought Mr. Nelson which resulted in class havoc . . . We never realized how much stuff our parents had accumulated until we made household inventories in general business . . . Gerry and Jim tried (and still do) everything in their power to think up ques- tions to pester science teachers. Our first year in Senior High found us with the largest class, 118 students . . . Biology brought forth girlish screams when we dissected frogs. . .Pop tunes echoed through the halls when we typed to music . . .Remember the lengthy discussions in history that covered everything except history . . . Some of the boys started realizing girls weren’t so bad after all . . . Football and rings started changing hands . . . Spring came and so did the prom. . . The waitresses worked to perfect the hula and finally did, thanks to Miss Nagada . . .The boys quickly picked up ukelele playing and serenaded the cute Hawaiian lasses. Our junior year brought lots of new things . . . Ordering our class rings was a big thrill and, natural- ly, ours were the best ever . . . Then the class play . . . Remember the tryouts and how everyone kept their fingers crossed, hoping to make it? . . . The first half of the year was spent in making speeches in English class . . .At first we wondered if we would ever get through a three minute speech ... All the latest gossip was hashed over in 4th hour geometry . . . Some of the steadies found the music hallway a good meeting place . . . Springtime soon rolled around and with it the prom. . .We chose the theme An Evening In Paris with Parisian scenes and an Eiffel Tower, and, oh, those picnics afterwards . . . That was one time our parents didn’t wait up for us. Eldora.Peg, Skip, Dave, and Dick became mem- bers of the National Honor Society . . . Awards night gave Jene the captainship for the 1954 football sea- son . . . Peg and Dick were chosen to attend Girls' and Boys' State . . . Finals were next on the list and then we approached the last rung on the ladder. The first day of school found us in the senior assembly . . . When someone first called us seniors, we looked about wondering who they were talking to . . . We started realizing the fact when senior pic- tureswere taken. . .Weren't some of the expressions dillies? . . . Our football team didn't finish top in the conference but we're proud of them for playing clean and hard . . . The looks of utter enjoyment on Deanna’s and Bob’s faces as they sprang surprise pep talks made us wish, at times, we weren't seniors . . . Our class officers, Myron, Janet, Mary, and Jene led us through the year. . .Homecoming came, and with it, the suspense of who would be king and queen . . . Sally and Phil made a charming royal couple . . . Mr. Saari's efforts to pound Macbeth into us at times seemed impossible . . . but who can forget his stories and records? . . .Basketball season arrived and the auditorium was jammed with spectators en- couraging the team to victory. . . Soon it was spring . . . This year we sat back and relaxed at the prom and could finally take advantage of skip day . . . We kept busy autographing pictures and cards . . . Graduation announcements were sent to relatives and we practiced marching to Pomp and Circumstance . . . Commencement exercises seemed like another rehearsal until we were up on the stage, receiving the treasured sheepskins and hearing the Commence- ment address. . . Our address ... To some, gradua- tion brought a feeling of joy, others had a feeling of loss ... In looking back, we can realize our high school years are the stepping stones to a bright and promising future. At last becoming a junior. . .We thought the day would never come. . . As a junior, we had a lot of hard de- cisions to make . . . Choosing class rings was certainly a hard task. . .My, but those good orchestras were ex- pensive. . . The decisions for the prom were rather difficult but we tackled them. . .Arlo Hurley, President, Mar- lyn Seig, Vice Pre sident; Carolyn Johnson, Secretary; Barbara Laingen, Treasurer; were chosen early in the year to direct our class. . .Jon War- ling and Gail Jensen were chosen for our homecoming attendants . . . They looked nice by Queen Sally and King Philip, didn't they?. . .Since the sev- enth grade we have obtained first prize for our homecoming float; this year second prize. . . Men Are Like Streetcars was selected for our jun- ior class play. . .Milton Wetzel di- rected the play which was given No- vember 12, 1954. . .What hectic weeks of practice. . .We were saddened when two of our fellow classmates left. . . Roger Junker moved to Kentucky and Lowell Jensen transferred to Min- neapolis . . . Ruth Hammar, who for- merly lived in Iraq, enrolled as a new student. . .What a privilege to have her in our class. . .And so another year has passed. . .One more year and we will have completed high school. . . What will our future hold? 24 to our goal JUNIORS. ROW 1: J. Lingen, G. Hoffman, G. Paul, B. Engelking. ROW 2: A. Haler, V. Mossengren, A. Bonkoski, G. Jensen, P. Gruis. ROW 3: D. Sodenian, J. To start with, Marilyn Henderson, Kathleen Moody, and Marlys Stern- berg, were chosen as class officers . . .Janice Engdahl and Charles Dex- heimer represented our class in the royal party for Homecoming. . .Re- member our float that the wind almost blewaway ?. . .Our own cheerleaders, Marilyn Munson and Joanne Running, both did a fine job. . .Several of us volunteered our services to sopho- more mixed chorus, and a few to girls' glee club, band, swing band. . .Quar- tets also kept some of us on the go Quite a few of our boys participated in FFA and we were well represented in football, basketball, and wrestling . . .Tumbling and trampoline are other extra curricular activities that we participated in. . .In declam our efforts were put forth by memorizing pieces ranging from humorous to dra- matic. . .Who could ever forget those English classes. . .For some reason the re we re people who had to sit in the back of the room. . .On Monday we would set our minds on thinking of the right words to complete the Prizeword Puzzle Contest. . .A history class with 20 boys doesn't happen every year either . . . Learn those theorems, draw a quadrilateral, define the mean- ing of hypotenuse, were some of the phrases you would hear in our geom- etry class, and then we sophomores thought Mr. Esse was picking on us. . . Remember the fun we had dissecting animals in biology class, and those long assignments that we got from the the practice teacher, Mr. Traxler. . . We also looked forward to seeing if anything new had been added to the aquarium in Mr. Haws' room. . .Speed tests and drills kept us busy in typing . . .The art of seeing whose carriage could go the fastest and farthest was a familiar sight each day in class. . . In phy. ed. classes we could, show some of our youthful exuberance. . . Spring came, as did the prom, at which some of us were waitresses and wait- ers. . .And then you guessed it. . .final tests. . .And now look? We're Juniors. SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS: Kathleen Moody. Long and tedious hour s were spent hoping to win first prize on our homecoming float. . .Kathleen Madson and John Vetter were chosen our homecoming attendants to the king and queen. . .Our class had a very successful season in football and bas- ketball producing some promising athletes . . . also catching the eyes of the varsity coaches . . .Best part of school was the parties, creating up- roars in Mr. Sifford's room, having blank minds in algebra, and trying to roller skate with all the spills. . .As the boys learned how to build furni- ture, the girls improved their tech- nique with sewing and cooking . . . Luckily our bank accounts were ever- lasting when we learned how to fill out checks in general business . . .As winter passed and spring arrived, our minds turned to studying and wishing for the end of school. . .(Jean Voss and Joyce Mishler were chosen to cheer on the team, as second team cheer- leaders). . .Then it was the time for final tests. . .The teachers' familiar expression was heard once more, save your test papers . . .Hurrah! we passed. . .Next year, Senior High. Jean Cunningham and Richard Peter- son were chosen to reign over it. . . This year the eighth grade paper was named The Eighth Grade Express with Merridee Miller, as Editor-in- Chief and Bob Offerdahl, Assistant Editor. . .We really enjoyed putting our paper together. . .We also have an eighth grade basketball team under the direction of Mr. Strommen. . .As we look to the future, we bid farewell to the eighth grade and anxiously await our last year of Junior High.
