DEDICATION We wish to dedicate this yearbook to one who has not only guided us through our high school years, but one who has also been our friend, Sister Elaine Marie. How can we ever forget, or leave unthanked, the many times Sister listened to our problems, serious or otherwise; and took the time to help'us solve them? Neither can we forget the wise advice she has given us in preparation for our careers. We have found in Sister Elaine Marie all that a class could hope to find in a friend, leader, and counselor. So, in deep appreciation for all you have done, we the Class of 1960, proudly dedicate our yearbook to you, Sister Elaine Marie. Father Francis J. Grady “We have loved him during life, let us not abandon him until we have conducted him by our prayers, into the house of Our Lord.” —Saint Ambrose APPRECIATION To Our Homeroom Moderators We, the Class of 1960, wish to express our deep and sincere appreciation to you, our home- room moderators. Your deter- mination to give us the very best education possible, and your unselfish interest in all our school activities was but a minute part of your endless contributions to us in our senior year at Saint James. Your guidance gave us the strength to live as Catholic youth in a materialistic world. We will remember you always and we hope you will not forget us. Thank you for everything! To Our Parents We can only begin to express the deep and warm love and respect which we feel for our parents. To them we owe what we are and what we will be. Their sincere interest in each and every one of us has never faltered. Their sacrifices were many. Only with divine help could they have made possible our Christian Education. May your rewards be plentiful, dear parents! PRIESTS Very Reverend Monsignor THOMAS M. REARDON Pastor CHARLES J. McCARTHY Reverend Religion g 24 ALBERT G. DREW Reverend Religion Reverend JOHN J. N v TRE pese orem ese s. dÉ Cem Г 4 S Class History FRESHMEN: The first problem of our Freshman Year was getting acquainted with all the new faces around us. The big event was our initiation which was fol- lowed by our Freshman Dance. Before we knew it, it was June and we were no longer Green, Green Freshmen. SOPHOMORE: When we came back in September, Espanol was waiting for us. Sister Elaine Marie was also waiting at the door with a bookkeeping book in her hand. The most wonderful event that year was our Sophomore Dance which turned out to be one of the best dances we ever had. Finally our Sophomore year came to an end. JUNIOR: Coming back we noticed that we were missing a few old classmates. Finally we reached our goal, UPPERCLASSMEN. We were introduced to Mr. Gregg and Mr. Typewriter. The event we had long waited for would soon arrive—the receiving of our rings. Soon we would be full fledged Seniors. SENIORS: Now we are Seniors. We came back with many ideas for initiating the Freshmen, a day which we looked forward to. As we look back on these four years we regret that we are leaving. We shall never forget our wonderful principal—Sister Elaine Marie and all the help she has given us. And neither shall we forget wonderful Saint James High. t. наь w } Foz ода 3 on earth, so also the underclassmen study at Saint James to prepare them- selves for their future. , E 4 o E o 2 Ф 5 £ Ш = SW a о ба 2 zë = = Zu © = Va + = ME E 2 zw H Piel -с Eon Бо E ч zz = wm 22 3 - = s ш v et — е 5 Ф E a £ 4 preparing for his future life Please Sister, just one more time! Julius and Louis set up a picture of Josephine and Cathy for the Yearbook. N N John, Dan, Colette, and Beverly: artists at work. CLASS PROPHECY As | gaze into my crystal ball | enter the year 1970. The date, June 21; the place, Saint James High School; the occasion, the reunion of the Class of 1960. | see Assunta Giordano and Louis Angelone greeting the oncoming guests. Louis and Assunta are the two star reporters of that internationally famous paper, the Saint James Echo. They were sent here by their editors—Florence Marcussen and Joan Pallen who are still trying to put the 1960 yearbook together. The first three guests are now arriving. They are Marilyn Booth, Colette Sauriol, and Daniel Ur. Marilyn is private secre- tary to Daniel and Colette, who are the owners of that famous art gallery, The House of Sauriol. They pause for a moment to say hello to three old friends, those great basketball players, Joseph McKenna, Joseph Alves, and John Gaven. Joseph McKenna tells us that the three of them have started a basketball cl ub for underprivileged children. The next two to arrive are Madeline Macaluso and Jean Mohren. Jean has received her A.B. and M.A., and Madeline is the proud owner of a stationery store, selling the same type of stationery that she sold in Senior Year for Sister Anne. Carol Broderick has just arrived. Carol is now a secretary in the Federal Savings Loan Bank. She tells us that Otina Argentina will not be able to attend because she is manager of the Max Factor Cosmetics Corporation and she is busy developing new shades in lipstick. Three of our most famous guests have just arrived. They are Eileen Clines, Lucille Ryan and Kathleen Brady, the co-owners of the Best Freckle Remover ever discovered. They tell us that most of their business comes from the Irish students of Saint James High School alumni. Joanne Acquilino, Maryann Clark, Margaret Tamburino, and Mary Le Mehaute who have taken over the Gregg Shorthand Corporation, are talking to Natalie Ashurst, Helen Heneghan, Pat Quinn, and Margaret Gallagher who are still trying to pass their driving test. Julius Spohn, and Rosemary Grieco, the two famed photographers of the Pelican are busy taking pictures of the reunion. | see among us a great man of the day; George Fuchs, world famous businessman. Josephine Giordano, Annette Leo, and Marie Pagano those ever lively cheerleaders of 10 years ago, are now in show business and they will take charge of the entertainment for the evening. Helen Nowakowski, Margaret Marion and Eileen Brady are debating whether they should go to Arthur Murray's or Dale Dance Studios for dancing lessons. John Bottino, Alphonse Balevicz, and Thomas Gerstner have fulfilled their life-long desires and are now chief windowwashers in the Empire State Building. Theresa Ruggiero tells us that RoseAnn Malgeri, Beverly Bloom and she are doing fine as the first women taxi drivers for the Maroon and White Cab Company. | see at a front table those two lasses from Union, New Jersey, Christine Russo and Josephine lacona, who are now the two leading tree surgeons of Union. After the reunion tonight, Lucille Juliano, Marie Leszenska, and Mary Winters, will fly back to Cuba to continue their jobs as Spanish instructors. | see that Dolores Dangeleit will not be able to attend the reunion because she is now the mother of ten children and she just couldn't find a baby sitter. MaryEllen Rafanello, Lorraine Pfeifer, and Virginia Lennon have just com- pleted a book called Giggles, Giggles, Giggles. Catherine McNair tells us that she and Nancy Maneri are now in the Juke Box Business. Kathleen Ryan is the proud owner of a Book Shop and Dolores Czarnik is her assistant. Patricia Flannery is now president of a new club called the Chatterboxes. We would like to say thank you to John Fitzsimmons for supplying the ice cream for this reunion. John is the owner of the Good Humor Ice Cream Company. The scene is beginning to fade away but all of a sudden two figures appear. | might have guessed: Late as usual are Margaret Phillips and Elaine Scott.
