St. James vs. West Catholic O 6 The Bulldogs lost their first game to West since l95l with a score of O to 6. lt is said that the last ten yards are the toughest, this proved true for the Jimmies as they were stopped at the nine-yard line and the six-inch line. The Jims with the help of the great defensive plays of Dave Mitro held the Burrs scoreless until the last quarter. Shields HUWY W- Smefk Jim is a responsible student with a keen sense of school spirit, his amiable personality and leadership ability im- press everyone he meets. His loyalty to the school and never-say-die-attitude aid- ed him in becoming President of the senior class and the student council. His all around interest in the school caused him to ioin the camera club, yearbook staff, track and tennis teams. He is a fiery competitor who played football in his second, third, and fourth years, tak- ing letters in the last two. He was a member of the varsity club in his iunior and senior years, being elected secre- tary in his last year. A serious manner and a grim determination to get the iob done marked Jack's stay at St. James. Loyalty too plays a larger role in his capturing the trophy for the most loyal player on this year's football team. Jack played football four years, baseball three years copping two letters in each of these fields. He also participated in the Varsity Club three years and was a homeroom officer in each of his four years at St. James. . sn' 9, 5. John A. Segrin Jay H. Brauer A broad grin, a level head, and an ever present wit round Jay into one of the personable students in the senior class. His warm friendliness and unexhaust- ing drive have veered him through three years as a footf ball player and one as man- ager. He was also a member of track team, the Varsity Club of which he was elected president, the Student Coune cil, and Prom Committee. Joseph J. Giampalmi Running, running, and more running has given Harry a character that few students possess. His ready wit and interest in the school have labeled him as one of the most popular students in the senior class. He is most easily recognized by his mul- ti-lettered sweater, which is bedecked with three letters from cross-country and track. He is remarkable in the fact that he is untiring in his atti tude towards school, partici pating actively in the Varsity Club and Student Council. A resolute student whether on the basketball court or the track team or in the class- room, Don is always open for advice. His alertness and ability to look ahead make him stand out among his fel low students. Arriving in his Gimp is a football man, a lineman who could operate under pressure. He is a man whose calmness off the field hides his drive and persever- ance. These characteristics are supplemented by a warm friendliness and a quiet man- ner. He has been one of the most outstanding workers in the Varsity Club, won three letters in baseball being the team's first string catcher. sophomore year from West Catholic, Don ioined the ac- tivity parade by taking part in track, baseball, and bas- ketball and leading the Jim's in his senior year. He also played football in his last year until he was hurt. He was also one of the Varsity Club cheerleaders. -ls' ' Dominic J. DiJulia The A-3 Class olticers-J. Rupertus, Vice-President, J. Bonnes Bill is a red-headed ball of fire who suffers the fate of any yearbook editor, namely, fallen arches, ulcers, grey hair, and a slight nervous condition. Despite these minor ailments, he is an un- tiring worker, and his unceas- ing efforts are largely respon- sible for this book. His good humor, in spite of difficulties, brought for him the respect of everyone who knows him. He was also a member of the Camera Club for three years starting in his second and going through the fourth year. John is probably the most reserved and serious student in the senior class. He hardly appears the ath- letic type. His interest in track, however, played a large part in his life at St. James, He ran for the cross country team in his freshman and sophomore years and managed it in his iunior and senior years after being in- iured. Track followed the same pattern, he ran the hrst two years and managed the second two. He participated in the school's sodality pro- gram in his junior and senior years. He was a member of the Biology Club and of the school's board of intellects, better known as the Hi-Q Team. Anthony J. Yacono Edward R. Matczak Tony is a soft spoken serious minded leader whose pleasant manner and un- selfish dem- onstrated since his arrival at St. James in his sophomore year. Tony was a stand out member of the Student Coun- cil, active in the Sodality, be- ing Prefect in his senior year. He also applied his prowess to the Camera Club, Chess Club, and cheerleaders. Responsible and reserved would be the best terms in describing Tom , His eager- ness and creative ability are shown in his work and activi- ties. His drive helped in elect- ing him president of the Service Club of which he was a member for four years. He also was a member of the crass country team in his sec- ond and third years as well as a member of the Varsity Club. His most important contribution, however, was helping Mr. Brennan in mak- ing the sets for all of the shows put on at St. James. Huck , as he is known by his fellow students, would probably win the Mr. Vi- brant Personality contest if there was one. His ever- smiling face has brought laughs to two Variety Shows. On the more serious side, however, Jim has been ac- tive in the yearbook and a member of the band for four years, winning letters in the latter two. He also wrote some of the Variety Show and had the distinction of writing the school's sports activities for the Delaware County Daily Times. Here we find what a little self confidence and a lot of hard work can do for some- one. Fred is a serious minded young man who has been a four year first honor student at St. James. He attacks dif- ficulty with eagerness and wins out with perseverence. This popular young scholar can be found after school working on the yearbook, taking sports movies or at the Camera Club. He is a home- room officer and Valedictor- ian of the graduating class. Doc Wiechec as he is known to most of us is ac- tually one of the few students at St. James who are sure they have found their voca- tion in life. Doc as we know is the first student trainer here at St. James. His level head and coolness un- der pressure have molded him into all his tasks whether as head football manager, student trainer, or member of the Varsity Club. James A. Breslin Alfred J.
