Roark. Marianist Sodalit 1 Working for Christ through Mary, we Sodalists of St. James aim for the perfection of ourselves and our school. We work toward accomplishing this goal through Marian spiritual and social media. First, we prepare for our social influence by fortifying ourselves with specific spiritual requirements to keep us in the state of grace and to increase this life of Christ, Son of Mary. Being spiritually fortified we unite to work for the good of the student body at large. We meet once a week in cells where we use the inquiry technique led by our fellow Sodalists, D. Bar- nard, R. Carr, B. Gresh, A. Filoreto, C. McKenna, J. Courtney, M. Foster, D. Winfree and R. Shive. Numbered among our easily seen results this year are the Junior and Senior lunch period Masses on Fridays, distributing school prayer cards, showing of feature length religious movies, placing poster reminders in school, erect- ing a pamphlet rack, setting up May shrines. We sent a delegation to St. Louis, Mo., for a national Marianist Sodality Convention, and we will send another group to Beacon, N. Y., for a leader- ship training week during the coming summer. 'bo . Careful plotting of strategy, combined with exacting practice, conditions the Jimmies for the hard fought campaign. F. Orobono appears to be blinding the opposition to his swift faults. Coach Brennan, surveying the predicament of the opposition, plans to substitute N. Trainer, J. Larison and F. Colantuno. ABOVE: F. Orobono, dodging his way around right Grobbing lclterols, T. Hegarty T. Wynne Tackle End The great spill! Head over heels, the tumbling Bulldog scores another six points. Even the referee seems elated. 31 - Cardinal Dougherty - 7 St. James was victorious in its opening home game against Cardinal Dougherty. Greto and Czysew- ski both intercepted enemy passes while Orobono, Rullo, and Big Tom Wynne each took his share of the points and guaranteed a St. James victory. 0 - North Catholic - I9 The Jimmies' hope for the city championship was completely shattered in this heartbreaking game. An interception and touchdown by Finegan gave the Bulldogs a little hope, but even this was dis- pelled when the ref called it back. Things began to brighten for the Bulldogs when Rullo connected with Wynne for two long passes. And Rullo, Rodgers and Nacrelli warmed up to the fierce battle they are capable of waging. But from the second quarter, St. James' luck seemed to sour. 33 - Father Judge - 0 The Jimmies' earlier defeat at the hands of North Catholic was iust the shot in the arm the doctor ordered. St. James bounced back to trounce the Fr. Judge Crusaders. Rullo, Orobono, Rodgers and Nacrelli were the standouts in this game. 19 - St. Thomas More - 0 The Tommies better than average team was no match for the energetic Bulldogs. Sparked by the passing and catching of Filoreto and Wynne, and the spectacular running of Orobono, Rullo and Rodgers, the Jimmies recovered fumbles, blocked kicks and bottled up the Toms for the entire game. 18 - Bishop Neumann - 33 The Bulldogs felt defeat a second time but only after giving the Pirates a tussel for their prize. Orobono and Rodgers each gathered in a Rullo pass for a touchdown giving the Bulldogs twelve points. Not to be outdone, Neumann found time to push across thirty-three points. 'I3 - Roman Catholic - 6 Owing to the excellent defenses of the Jimmies, Roman Catholic fell for the first time this season. The combined ground-air attack of Orobono to Rullo sparked the Bulldogs march to victory. Rader, Dougherty and Rodgers were tops in this game's defensive column. 'l8 - La Salle - 40 The very powerful Explorers were too much for the Bulldogs to withstand. The already bruised Bull- dogs were further muzzled by the expulsion of .our two quarterbacks, Rullo and Filoreto. Wynne and Orobono were responsible for the three touchdowns. 19 - West Catholic - 0 For the fifth time in five years, St. James held the Burrs scoreless. ln spite of a stiff wind which stymied the Jimmies arial attack, Finegan and Orobono spearheaded the way to victory on the ground with Rader and Stratts leading the way defensively. 18 - Monsignor Bonner - 7 The Bulldogs scored an easy victory in this second traditional game with Bonner. Rullo and Wynne spurred the crushing offensive attack, while on the defensive Rodgers and Nacrelli snuffed out Bonner's scoring aspirations. li 1 x i , -1 Q i Q . Under the direction of Mr. Bert Piscotty, M.S., our musicians played for rallies, games and other school exercises. The musicale was the highlight of the season's entertainment. Held on April 26, 27, to raise funds for the school and for our annual band tour, the musicale featured our newly formed dance band and glee club. This year's band trip is a departure from pre- vious years. We toured several schools of the Society of Mary, giving a concert-assembly at each one. Accompanying us on this tour of Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania were our di- rector, Mr. Bert Piscotty, and our moderator, Bro. Donald Gaskill, S.M.
