THRUUGH THE YEAR In Easton Pennsylvama ln 1847 the future spmt of St ames was mcarnated ln the person of ames Tlmmms He recerved h1s fundamental edu catxon ln the Publxc Schools tn Easton After attending Lafayette College and St Bona venture College he entered St Charles Seminary to study for the prxesthood Following hrs ordlna tion he spent forty five of hrs fifty erght years of priesthood as rector of St Michael s parish m Ches ter Hrs greatest concern was for the children of the parlsh Because of hrs great love for them he bequeathed a large sum of money for the foundatlon of a Cathohc Hlgh School From hrs generosrty spurred on by the love of God and his fellow man St James High School was concexved and con structed September 29 1940 was the openmg day m the proud hlstory of St ames Hlgh School The mrtral faculty conslsted of ten drocesan prxests one layman and a secretary They faced the first two hundred and forty one St ames students who proudly assumed their new hlgh school duties They saw the Hrst graduating class at St ames in 1944 As the school progressed the faculty and stu dent body grew The graduating class of 1944 carrxed with them the loyalty and devotlon mstllled In them at St ames to the battle fields of World War II ohn Judefind Thomas Deltman George Greenhalgh Francls Pro nestr ames Dennehey oseph Cohtll and oseph acono made the supreme sacrlfice for thexr country men St ames first produced a champnonshlp team when the 1947 baseball team swept the Phlladelphra Cathol1c League In 1953 Mr Brennan contmued the champlonshlp spmt by produclng an undefeated football team which tled for the Cxty trtle wlth North east Publxc High School In that same year Msgr Adolph Baum pulled the lever that unearthed the first scoop of soll for the construction of the new school burldmg In 1955 Fathers ORe1lly Dunron and Baum celebrated their 15th Anmversary along wlth St ames The teachmg staff further mcreased wxth the arrival of the Marranlst Brothers ln 1957 By now St ames was well establrshed m the Chester communxty It not only provlded Chester wrth outstanding Chrrstlan cltlzens but xt also served the material needs of Chester by the newly mmated Canned Food Drrve The Brothers and prlests produced many fme graduates such as the late Alble Flloreto to whom IS dedlcated the chrme tower of Pennsylvania M111 tary College On the occaslon of this Twenty fifth Annlver sary year xt IS our smcere wlsh that St ames w1ll contlnue ln the proud tradxtxon that xt has set m its first quarter century I I - 9 19. 7 J . in thas: who served and ta the alumm The students of the Silver Anniversary Class wish to dedicate this commemorative issue of The Blue and Gray to all those who have contributed to make St ames High School the fine institution that lf has become We would particularly like to single out Their Excellencies the Most Reverend Bishops who have co operated so fully in thus diocesan work The Most Reverend and Reverend Supermtendents who have consistently aided in keeping our standards among the highest in the area The former administrators the principals and vice principals who have so carefully guided our high school life and made lf so successful The Alumni from whom we have gathered the strength and It is impossible to include the emotions of all the graduates of St ames High School Likewise it is impractical to list the numerous achievements of our wise administrators We can only mention that they have happened and that the events of the last twenty five years have made St ames a truly admirable institution We the Silver Jubilee Class of 1965 carry with us the tradition of this quarter century and it is our fondest wish that our sons will be able to share in the spiritual and educational resources that we and our predecessors have extracted and assimilated into our daily lives , . . . , . . .
