Miss Mary Bauer Mr. Francis Brennan 1940-1965 MISS MAR Y BA UER It is rare indeed to find a woman who can worlc with high school boys for a quarter-century and still retain her composure and sanity. Kliss Bauer has not only done this. but has also been the backbone of the St. James secretarial staff. In 1940 she was the only secretary and treasurer for 12 faculty mem- bers and 244 students. Today she is chief of three secretaries of the staff, serving 55 faculty members and over 1400 students. Always cheerful and hardworking, Miss Bauer certainly deserves a hearty thanks for her quarter- centurv of service. MR. FRANCIS BEANS BRENNAN Through his twenty-five-year sojourn at St. james, Mr. Brennan has served the student body with a father-like dedication. He has constantly striven to develop our students not only intellectually, but also physically, for in his twenty-five years here he has served as an art instructor, and he has coached football and basketball. Beans Brennan is always there when there is work to be done. Cn many occasions, Mr. Brennan has helped the organizations of the school when there was any type of designing needed. For instance, the dance decorations, scenery for all the dramatic presentations. all the Blue and Gray art, and even sketches of football plays have all been under his expert direction. His quick wit and subtle humor have endeared him forever in the hearts of all who lcnow him. Faculty members, students, athletes-all of us join in thanking and congratulating Mr. Brennan on his twenty-five generous years of service to St. James. They are consistently the leaders of the important sports, activities, and projects. In them can be found the best criterion of the value of a school's program. Robert Sparky Faries is an outstanding example of a per- fectly formed high school student. Felix Pace Through his four years of school at St. ames Fil has certainly made his presence felt in a number of ways. He is probably the most fully developed Senior in his spiritual physical and educational life. As head of the Sodality and First Vice-President of his homeroom Fil has certainly outdistanced his fellow seniors in the spiritual department. Physically he has won a starting position as linebacker of our football team and a shotputter on the track squad. Educationally Fil has maintained better than a 92 averge in four years and he is Vice-President of the National Honor Society. He hopes to enter the Naval Academy next year and with his background there is little doubt that he will improve on his sterling record. William Stover Unlike many brains Bill does not act stuffy and superior in front of his fellow classmates. Aside from his intellectual dominance Bill is an editor of the Bark and influential member of the Marianist Sodality. He has con- sistently been a stalwart on the Debating and Hi- teams, which have been so successful in recent years. The National Honor Society would not be com- plete without Bill's membership, and he has been very influential by working through its committees. Bill plans to enter medical school at Georgetown University after his graduation. There is little doubt that he will be as success- ful in this profession as he has been at St. James. 1-Q ,cs 1 ' in H c:- X . It is a rare day that the halls are peaceful after dismissal. Jody Poliafico has been one of the most active of all of this year's seniors. In temporal af- fairs, Ed Flanagan has done a noteworthy job of organizing the weekly dances, the Christmas Dance, the Yearbook Drive, and the extensive intramural program. The Sodalists aim to bring Christ into all spheres of their influence, whether school, worlc, or recreation. This is done practically through Apostolic projects. Felix Pace and the Sodality Council discuss Christian ideals in an existentialist society. This year's projects have included worlc on the Cerebral Palsy program, campaign against indecent literature, active participation in the Greater Chester Movement, and others. Heading the Sodality this year is Felix Pace, Prefect, and Brother James DeVito, Sodality Co- ordinator. Service lub If any one organization at St. James can be called inclispensible, that organization is the Service Club. Its work touches almost every activity and sport, and it also serves the administration in in- numerable little ways. This year, Mike Saltis and some of his fellow workers expanded the work of the Service Club even further-into the city of Chester, by their work in the Greater Chester Movement. If their plans can be fulfilled, Chester will be a much greater com- munity, and the name of St. James will become a little more prominent in the Chester region. Shortly after the season ended, the more expe- rienced members formed the core of the orchestra for Oklahomal,' in collaboration with some of Notre Dame's orchestra members. Aside from providing entertainment for their audiences, the Band also served as a vocational activity, as three of the seniors are planning to continue their study of musi- cal art in college. National Honor Society The Bark At St. James, publications are a vital part in the school life of every student. In fact, we may venture to say that publications are our most important product. Over the years our Bark has won many national and state awards. This year's Bark has faithfully upheld that tradition. The editors, Bill Stover, Joe Bosiclc, Mark Geary, and Tony Wood, have spent countless hours of their time trying to raise the standard of our paper even higher.
