zzscball The baseball team included - Front row: Paul Seiberlich, Mike McKinney, Jerry Rehg, Sher- man Sweeney, Bill Schnider, Bob Schiefer. Back row: Don Kohne, Jerry Schmitt, Jim Trent, Tom Ahlmeyer, Henry Robards and Coach Schaefer. Some ofthe statistics ofthe baseball season were: highest batting averages - Seiberlich, .417 McKinney, .355g Schiefer, .3335 Mike led in stolen bases with 14. There was also a no hit game pitched by Hank Robards who relieved Mike McKinney in the second inning. Neither pitcher allowed a hit. Going into the final game of the season, St. Jacob was tied for second place with a chance to tie for first. Unfortunately, St. Jacob lost the last game of the season to Okawville by the score of 4-1 and closed the season in third place. Oh! Is that so? Seiberlich on first. We defeated Elkville by a score of 47-44. The boys were encouraged and led Jakie to victory in the second game of the toumament against Steelville with a score of 58-37. The third game, which would determine the first place winner, was lost to Attucks of Carbondale by a score of '70-50. The boys did a fine job with the help of the cheerleaders, the fans, and Mr. Schaefer, the coach.
