Schie- fer and Coach Miller. With six returning lettermen and high hopes for a good season, the Lions started heavy drills in mid-October. Again hampered by lack of height and weight, the fire- wagon style was employed in hopes of substituting speed for size. The season opened with an easy 63-50 victory over Witt, but in the second game a plague of injuries began. Added to the measles and other sickness the old injury jinx held the Lions to a poor four and seven record at Christmas time. With the return of Tom Ahlmeyer in January the team almost hit full strength and won six of eight, the only black marks being back-to-back losses to a very strong Columbia team. During this time the squad brought home the first place consolation trophy from the New Baden Invitation Tourney, and with it a new school scoring record with a 104-86 victory over Patoka. Injuries and sickness again interfered and the Lions did not regain their stride until about District Tourney time as they rang down the curtain on the regular season with a 96-52 victory over Witt. In the District Tourney a weak Marquette team put on an amazing shooting exhibi- tion in the second half to give the Lions a scare after a near rout the first half. St. Jacob hung on for an 87 -'79 victory and the right to face Troy in the second round. Against Troy the jittery Lions shot their second lowest field percentage in two years and dropped a 65-'76 decision after leading through the early part of the game. Wayne Frutiger established new records in single game scoring, 42, season scoring, 543, and field goals, 226. Mike McKinney set new marks in free throw percentage with 814 and assists with 196. Henry Robards tied the defensive rebounding record with 200 and received the Most Valuable Player Award for consistent play. Seiberlich, Schmitt, Ahlmeyer and Seger played steady ball throughout the season. Compliments of SCI-lMITT'S BARBER SHOP St. Jacob, Illinois

zzscball The baseball team included - Front row: Paul Seiberlich, Mike McKinney, Jerry Rehg, Sher- man Sweeney, Bill Schnider, Bob Schiefer. Back row: Don Kohne, Jerry Schmitt, Jim Trent, Tom Ahlmeyer, Henry Robards and Coach Schaefer. Some ofthe statistics ofthe baseball season were: highest batting averages - Seiberlich, .417 McKinney, .355g Schiefer, .3335 Mike led in stolen bases with 14. There was also a no hit game pitched by Hank Robards who relieved Mike McKinney in the second inning. Neither pitcher allowed a hit. Going into the final game of the season, St. Jacob was tied for second place with a chance to tie for first. Unfortunately, St. Jacob lost the last game of the season to Okawville by the score of 4-1 and closed the season in third place. Oh! Is that so? Seiberlich on first. Where's the ball: Let's have a homer. One for St. Jacob, Throw it hard now. Compliments of MR, and MRS, ARNOLD AHLMEYER
