Construction Investing in Future Wildcat Generations Si’s construction, renovation, and technological upgrades have sparked mixed emotions throughout the entire student body. According to Brother Draper, these upgrades make students “more accountable”; however accountability does not equal comfort. Sure, the computerized attendance makes it harder to cut class and the desks don’t allow you doze off as easily, but the technology amazes everyone and the classrooms look awesome. We patiently await completion the outdoor construction, despite the losses of our favorite outdoor short cuts. While we wait for the reveal of Si’s future additions, the teachers and students have reached a general consensus regarding the classrooms and technology. The students say that the desks are uncomfortable, while the teachers feel as though the technology is frustrating. Thank goodness that first impressions are not always lasting impressions. “They took away the character of the classrooms, made them sterile, and I don’t like the desks because they are hard to move around.” - Drew Lawson “Sneaky suspicion designed so students can’t fall asleep watching PBS movies during Mr. Murphy’s physics class.” “I always enjoy hearing a drum roll as the nifty projectors come down.” - Kevin Woods - Adrienne Syme and Alex Krannenburg Student Life 029

Fall Play An American Daughter Set in Washington, D.C., AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER fo- cuses on Dr. Lyssa Dent Hughes, a health care expert and forty-something daughter of a long-time Senator. When the President nominates Lyssa to a Cabinet post, an indiscre- tion from her past is discovered. The media turns it into a scandal which imperils her confirmation and divides her family and friends. Lyssa is forced to make a decision: con- tinue to pursue the post and face an ugly Senate hearing; or decline the nomination, becoming a sacrificial lamb for the President. Partisan politics in our nation’s capital, however, are nothing compared to the personal politics in Lyssa’s liv- ing room, where complicated relationships unravel with her father, husband and her best girlfriend —not to mention the awkward encounters she has with an exuberant neo-feminist author and a relentless TV journalist. “This year the play was a lot of fun to do. The plot was subtly funny and had adult themes but was still a great experience. The cast this year was really interesting, there were a lot of veterans to theatre and also a lot of newbies, which made for an interesting time. We had a lot of fun and worked really hard, me it seemed like this experience went by way too fast and I wish it could have lasted longer. -Jessica Times “The most intellectually taxing piece SI has staged in years provided a delightful opportunity for audience members to grapple with the difficult issues of gender, leadership, honesty, and family while cast members grappled with Wendy Wasserstein’s witty dialogue.” -Jessica Rizzo “Play like a champion today.” - Joe Tursi 030 Student Life
