El Salvador By: Shannon Cadagan This summer Scott Bruni, Karin Erkkila, Chris Murphy, Regina Sheridan, Clark Stephens, Ryan Wagner, and myself (Shannon Cadagan) spent two weeks in El Salvador. We spent the first part of our trip in the capital of San Salvador. We met women organizations and youth groups, visited Romeros Tomb, where he was shot, and the UCA. where the Jesuit martyrs were killed. We proceeded to Las Vucltas. a small village in the countryside, where we spent time with the people. We played with the children, met with teachers, and played soccer and softball with the village teams. Our next slop was Guarjila, a slightly larger village. We stayed with families and got a feel for every day life, from working in the fields or going to the city to attend school. It was a trip we’ll never forget and are very grateful for being given the opportunity for this experience. Guaymas 1 by Karen Valter litis summer Rachel Bog, On Kenny, Tony Luini. Brendan Wells, and I had the experience of living in Guaymas, Mexico for two spectacular weeks with our leaders Tim Daniels and Sile Dooley. We found Guaymas to be a neat place, filled with many passionate, caring, and energetic people who were always ready to make us feel right at home. Each day we served meals in the Meson, the local soup kitchen, delivered food to the satellite homes throughout the city, little (xld jobs, and our favorite, playing with the children of Jerry's Club or Micrahondas and even teaching a few English classes. We were able to slow down the pace of our everyday lives and enjoyed the simple things. We will cherish the memories, experiences, and the people we grew to love, and their places in our hearts will be alive forever. Guaymas 2 by Jason This past July, Dave Giarruso, Ben Arons, Nocllc Arroyo, Colin Guheen, Jill 1 lerschlcb. Euric Kim, Angela Lcus, Lisa Medina, Jason L'rbiztondo, :uul Patty Wellman lived at the Casa Franciscana in Guaymas. Mexico. We, as a group, learned the true meaning of solidarity through our extensive work at Id Meson (soup kitchen). Jerry's Club (a center for children), and Microondas ( a site where we built a swingset for children). These children were our inspiration who touched our hearts the most with their carefree and fun-loving disposition. While we immersed within a culture unfamiliar to that of our own, our Immersion group found a sense of camaraderie amongst ourselves and those around us. It was this community that helped us learn the true meaning of simple living . Through all these experiences, the ten of us formed new and lasting friendships and returned home feeling grateful for all that we have. Guatemala Immersion - By Molly Kirk Claudia Allwood, Monica Cardona, Greg Chiarclla, Molly Devitt, Siobhan Harrington. Tom Kcrblcski. Peg Beasley, Martina Miller and I went to Guatemala for our two week long faith tour. During our Immersion we learned about the injustices the people have endured throughout the years. We also have witnessed the poverty the majority of the people live in everyday. We met leaders of the community who were fighting for their rights and wording towards equality and justice throughout Guatemala. Every time we saw a tragic situation, there was someone trying to make it better. We discovered that there is no such thing as a hopeless cause in Guatemala. Though our original mission was to help the people in Guatemala, die people we met helped us far more than we could help them. We learned from their endless hospitality, undying love for family, friends, and neighbors, and intense passion for life: and these arc the lesson we will carry with us always. Immersion IS

Egypt by Eric Emstcr For the first and last time this summer. Saint Ignatius sent an Immersion group to Egypt. Elizabeth Cincotta, Colleen Ciaitor, Katherine Giuffre, Ashley Tudor. Erie Emstcr, Edward I)e Asis, and Hubert Ncthcrcott were the proud pioneers of this adventure. For the first three days we saw the sights of Cairo which included the Pyramids of Giza, the Cairo Museum, and the Nile. Then we drove to Alexandria where we worked in a leprosy colony for ten days. Here we worked with some Egyptian college students, and together we helped restore one of the dilapidated buildings of the colony. After Alexandria, we drove to Luxor where we saw many great sights, and we all got diarrhea. Many great friendships were made on the trip, but there were also many confrontations. Through these confrontations our group learned to stick up for ourselves, «and we «also discovered that if we stuck together and suj | orled each other we could survive. Quebec by Theresa Finn Tills past summer, seven people embarked on a new journey to a foreign country for two weeks in Montreal. Canada. Scotty McFrugal Campbell. Theresa T Finn, Molly McCorkTe, Lukey Poo Schwartz, and Forrest Wittiker Wittenmeier accompanied by their leaders Laura bad mom Boniface and Julia good mom Rinaldi were prepared to experience the French- Canadian culture while helping those who were underprivileged. Our trip was truly unique and left us with super memories of the fun we had and the different people we encountered. We arc so grateful for this unforgettable experience and for the priceless friendships we developed .dong the way. I.OS ANGELES Despite incessant gunfire, daily muggings, and multiple gang wars, the Los Angeles Immersion group managed to extract a positive experience from our two week stay. Actually Mark DeVoto. Brendan Graham. Michaela Lee. Keiko Nakai, Erin O’Brien. Karen Sui, and Michael Shaughnessy had a tremendous time and we were lucky not to experience any of the aforementioned incidents. The six of us spent one week at All People’s Christian Center in Central Los Angeles, and the next at Delores Mission School in East Los Angeles. Our tasks included playing with Spanish speaking preschoolers, tutoring elementary school kids, talking with teen gang members, making food for the homeless, and eating dinner with senior citizens. From young to old. we certainly had a full range of activities. II limiiiT ioii
