HENBY'S COMES OUT ON TOP Yes, thanks to Dennis V1ed's winning essay we did come out on top. His five minute broadcast, 'I Speak For Democracy' was judged the best of five entries in the contest. Other schools who entered the contest were: Lincoln High, Anniston High, Charleston H1gh,and East Prairie High Here are some extracts from his broadcast. I speak for democracy. Why? Because I am an 'SW American. All my life I have enjoyed the privileges that one, who lives in a democracy, may receive. I have grown up in surroundings where there are out- Spgken opinions, where no one is afraid to speak against what he thinks is wrong, where everyone has 8 right to choose what he thinks ls better for the welfare of the country. ,,, You have probably heard the slogan, 'Freedom is 'XFN up to each and everyone of us to preserve the rights and liberties that democracy has gained for men who have served their country so well. How? By taking our rightful place in our government. By working and fighting for what is right. These are the things which make America, democracy, liberty, strong. ...elif I From time to time Porky and Ferdie, our school banks, are opened and the money ls deposited in our school account. From our account, we have been able to pay for the Public Address System, the Inter- Communicatlon System, and a Tape Recorder. Hrs. Paul B. Upon his passing away, on last All Souls' Day. This com- munity certainly felt an emptiness which it is yet unable to fill. He not only aided his parish to his utmost in everything, but he also devoted much of his time to improving Charleston and this locality by taking an active part in civic affairs. A good example of Father Keller's Christopher movement,Mr. Stricker or, as he was called by many, Uncle Ben, Sh0W8d what one person can do to change the world we cannot improve upon his example, we can only im ltate it We offer these few lines as a tribute to a child of God whom we are most happy to know and love so well Requiescat in pace Dennis Vied, '56 + + + + + + + + + + + + +++++++++++++++++++++ mis ml ALL IN THE PREPARATION OF AN ASSEMBLY PROGRAM Finding Material Checking out books Decorating The Program SNAPS 1 + . + z . + ' + + ' + 1 Q I + + U.
