Q? gi W - - csuperzhfen 0Ql?f?S' NGSSGYQ I wish to express my appreciation to the annual staff, the annual sponsor, and to the senior class for the great amount of time and effort they have expended to publish the 1958 Pow- Wow. This appreciation is particularly significant because this annual is the first to have been published in the his- tory of the St, Henry Schools. The fact that this is an entirely new ven- ture should make the results even more gratifying. I hope that each graduating senior will value the years spent at St. Henry, and will find the education they have received here will serve them both spiritually and physi- cally in the years to come. Now that you have graduated, do not feel that these years are behind you and should there- fore be forgotten. You should let your education be the foundation of your success and aspirations ' 4 . 7 cscfoofijoaz-of pen SEATED LEFT TO RIGHT: Clerk, Miss Leona Hartingsg John Gast, louis Schockman, Vice- President, George Hoyingg President, Roman Bruns. The class of '58 wishes to thank Mr. Myron Huelsman, our advisor for guiding us through our senior year to its successful conclusion Gkss jflsfory The discovery of the Class of 1958 was an accident. Four years ago, early one morning in September, 1954, the faculty of the St. Henry High School was strolling aimlessly through the corridors, chattering about the just ended vacation and wondering whether there would be any startling changes in their work during the coming year. Suddenly they caught a glimpse of something new and strange. Just inside the front door, huddled together in mute embarrassment and anxiety, were the members of what became the Class of 1958. To the casual eye, they seemed merely a group of ordinary girls and boys, well dressed, reasonably good looking, and badly frightened. But to the trained eyes of these daunt- less and experienced teachers, these strangers seemed distinct, and widely separated individuals, each possessing aptitudes and talents, deficiencies and capabilities decidedly worth finding out. They were permitted to form an organization of their own, and elected the following offi- cers, all of whom fulfilled their duties well: PRESIDENT, James Dippoldg VICE-PRESIDENT, Joe LeFevreg SECRETARY, Janet Schwietermang TREASURER, Tom Wehrkampg REPORTER, Ann Rinderleg ADVISOR, Mr. DeBrosse, During the year, Marjorie Maxwell moved into our community and entered our class, A few months later, just as we were catching on the routine of the school, Bernadette Neitfeld left our class, At the end of the year a terrible disaster fell on our class. When we retumed in the fall, we found that our class had suffered greatly by the loss of Shirley Bertke, Elmer Broering, Paul Clune and Donald Quintet, We now had 62 members. The elected officers for our Sophomore year were: PRESIDENT, Gerald Dippoldg VICE- PRESIDENT, Larry Brunswickg SECRETARY, Richard Schroerg TREASURER, Tom Wehrkampg AD- VISOR, Mr, Brophy. This was a most distinguished body and reflected honor on the entire school. During our Sophomore year, Marjorie Maxwell moved to another town and left our class forever. At the end of the year we had 3 less members. They were Jerry Evers, Ernest Post, and Ralph Wendel. In the third year, owing to an old educational custom the Sophomores became Juniors, and their promotion made their sense of importance increase out of all due proportion. Great, in- deed, was their sense of scorn for the Freshmen and Sophomores. As Juniors we had more duties to perform and these were well taken care of by PRESIDENT, Ann Rinderleg VICE-PRESIDENT, Janet Schwietermang SECRETARY, Jim Dippoldg TREASURER, Carol Oldingg REPORTER, Virginia Gels, ADVISOR, Mr. Cashman, One of the high lights of the year was the day we received our class rings. Another great event was the day we presented the three act comedy, Henpecked Husband, under the direc- tion of Mr. Griffin. A new member of our class was Sharon Karcher. Suzanne Bennett left our class to resume her studies in Dayton, Ohio, On May 9, 1957, we had the Seniors as our guests at the Junior-Senior Prom, The theme was Fairyland Romance. With the gaining of this title of Seniors were: PRESIDENT, James Dippoldg VICE-PRESIDENT, Joseph LeFevreg SECRETARY, Mary Ann Dahlinghausg TREASURER, Janet Schwietermang REPORTER, Sharon Karcherg ADVISOR, Mr. l-luelsman, We selected Chicago as the site of our class trip which begins on May 21, Graduation exer- cises will be held on Sunday, May 25. The salutatorian for this year is Ralph Steinlage, and the valedictorian is Marge Laux, It may be said that we have erred on the side of restraint in writing this history. So we take this opportunity to say now that in our far from humble opinion the class of 1958 is the most brilliant and attractive of any class known to history and will be always remembered by the faculty of the St. Henry High School and the people of the town as that wonderful class of 1958. .
